NFL, first shotgun season, people doing holiday stuff. Plus, even though they were a good opponent your average fan doesn't realize that when they see St. Johns on the schedule. Seems like this is always a tough time of year for basketball attendence for any opponent not named Iowa. NBD IMO.
This is why I wouldn't worry about it too much a Sunday afternoon game in early December. If it becomes more of a thing then ok sure. I for one went hunting yesterday morning, then watched the cy-hawk wrestling dual.

Sunday college basketball sucks. I hope with the new TV deal that we continue to generally play on Saturday (unless it is a CBS national broadcast or something)...
Attending basketball games can be tough if the day of the week does not fit into a person's schedule. That has always been why I have never had BB season tickets. I will say this, I have always given away my football tickets when I can't make it. I am not in the ticket business for my own personal gain, so I would rather have a Cyclone in my seat than pocketing any money. I get why others may disagree.

People need to relax about the Cyclone alley bleachers. The old bleachers were shot and they were at the mercy of what was available to be installed. The old bleacher's had those crappy bolted down seats, the AD wanted more of a permanent bench type seat.

They also got tired of having to replace bent and broken chairs after every game.

We felt like attendance was even better than expected. It was about the same as the Missouri game was last year which is probably a comparable game quality wise.

Literally every other school can do it, but we absolutely can't. So I agree.

Some schools can, you certainly can't know if its 'literally any other'.

A lot of other schools also likely have more balance in the merchandise being sold. A ton of cyclone fans don't have a single yellow\gold shirt (because, honestly, it doesn't look good on a lot of people) and a lot of people aren't going to feel compelled to shell out for a tshirt that they likely aren't going to wear outside of that one game

Where was everyone yesterday? A sunday afternoon, facing an undefeated team, while we are ranked and the place was maybe 60% full. No students in the upper level and basically zero people followed the striping scheme they emailed out. What the heck is going on?
ISU does not fudge attendance figures and it was pretty good. Check the box.

ISU fans are uniquely resistant to this concept. It doesn’t bother me, but I think it’s pretty apparent.

Maybe it’s not EVERY other school, but I’d bet every other school with a similarly passionate fanbase can pull this off.

I mean, but our colors and merchandise situation make it for good reason. ISU merchandise has never had great availability over the years and yellow merch has been even more of a rarity

Hell, i own a good amount of ISU apparel and only 1 yellow shirt (which I bought for a prior yellow theme night). It was a struggle to even find that one when I did, as I went to a couple places where they had 20 red shirts, 1 yellow, and that yellow was sold out of everything except XS and XXL+ (and that seems to be a pretty common occurrence).

I’ve almost always had some gold ISU gear that I wear regularly, and I wear XL which is probably the most common size

Also, the color scheme attempt was a dumb idea. Iowa State has shown time after time that they don't get behind those.
I thought the instructions were poorly thought out. The "gold" section was show in red background with gold lettering and visa versa.

Anyone looking quickly might have looked at the background color and ignored the text.

In the future they should have the background as the desired shirt color and have the font in white or black.

I also agree that distributing shirts improves the likelihood of compliance.

This sounds suspect. I ended up with about as much yellow and I didn't seek it out.

As for those who prefer non school color gear... Why?

I told my daughter, and she agreed, that those wearing gold all looked like they dug out some old shirt from 10 years ago. That's what I would have had to do if I was assigned "gold." Before going I knew the thing was going to be a massive fail. Way too intricate. Do half and half or balcony vs. lower bowl. Make it easy.

Well the striping scheme is hard for ISU to do I don't think most people ever look at there tkts close enough to realize it. Some tried though because there was way more gold than usual. Going solid is the only way it only sort of works for the AD, I really don't expect much success for the white out against TX. Too many folks just grab cardinal, gray, or black for games. I thought attendance was pretty good except for the upper level student section. But that only fills for maybe 3 games a yr.
