Oh how the media can stir a fan base into a frenzy over nothing.

Sorry NIU, I don't think this is coming to fruition.

I really hope we never add someone like NIU that waters down the basketball side of the conference. Big 12 is never going to add a top-flight football school, there just aren't any left to add. They might as well add schools that at least beef up the league's other money making product.

I think, don't know for sure, but think BYU made requirements that were totally unacceptable to the league when they first visited. I suspect those same hurdles would not exist today, as BYU has openly campaigned for a slot in the Big12.

I recall this as well, and I seem to remember it involving a special exemption from any athletic events being held on Sundays.

What's sad is that they are in the MAC and they can put more than double the money into their stadium expansion that we can. Do I think NIU belongs in the Big 12? Hell no. But selfishly speaking, they are 30 minutes from my house. I'd love to have Iowa State visit that close every other year.

NIU won't be in the B12. That said, I selfishly wish they were, because it would be an easy trip for me to see the Cyclones. Also I get what you are saying about their BBall, I am wondering if this new AD they have will be able to do something about there absolutely atrocious basketball. I get they are in the MAC, but Chicago is quite possibly the most fertile basketball recruiting ground in the US, how NIU and DePaul, have absolutely no ability to compete in their respective leagues escapes me. Just makes you appreciate the leadership that JP has bestowed on us at ISU.

I am with you on that selfish talk. I believe all that money is private donation to. So apparently they are getting some kind of support. Even though most of the time you wouldn't know they are only an hour from downtown.

No, I agree, but I have the same thought when I see people throw out someone like UCF or Tulane.

Committee clearly admitted it was in fact an impact to the decision.

They also admitted that "geography" had a major impact. To me, that sounds like they went with "large schools" versus any crowd TCU or Baylor could support.
