Not of this World
Even though this team is not as talented as the past couple of seasons, they still have the talent to be top 4 in this league, when last I checked has been ranked #1 or 2 the past couple of years.

So you mean like they are right now? Tied for 4th currently.
Win the games we are supposed to win the rest of the year (all but Baylor and @ WVU) and we finish 11-7 in conference play. Drop the game @ KSU and its still 10-8 which would still be a solid conference record.

Right we played out of our mind that game and ku had 21 turnovers. I wouldn't be suprised if we finished the year 17-13. He's really "evolving" as a coach

Im not taking anything away from beating Kansas, that was a huge win any way we can take it. I didnt really see much of anything different though other that we played pretty solid defense in that 2nd half.

Our offense was exactly the same as its been all year, guys standing around, not moving, passing around the perimeter, only difference is we got hot from 3 and made some tough contested shots. Pretty much the opposite of what happened last night in the first half. I guess the law of averages was going to take over at some point.

Kentucky has one of the youngest teams in the country and they are doing well, Duke has a young team, UCLA starts 2 freshmen.. USC is young, heck Iowa is young and has a better record than Texas

Now I think Smart is a good coach, but the fact of the matter is with that much talent, he should be fighting for the top half of the league. He does not have a bunch of 3 start guys, he has 5 stars.

If they fail to make the NCAA tourney next year would you fire Smart?

I wouldn't fire smart but with the money texass has I'm sure they could FIRE Smart......

No, I don't think you have a clue about Shaka Smart.
1. The VCU "glory years" were from 2009-2013 (NCAA tourney success, Final Four in 2011, at least 27 wins per year, being ranked, etc.) came when assistant coach Will Wade was there.
2. After Wade left to take the Chattanooga head job, Shaka's last 2 years at VCU weren't quite the same, both in the A-10 and the NCAA's.
3. Wade is now back as head coach at VCU, and the winning is back. They lost to Final Four team OU by 4 in the NCAA's last year, and they're 17-5 this year.
4. This Texas program bears absolutely no resemblance to the VCU teams of the past. Longhorn fans are asking "where is this 'havoc' we heard about?" It's not there because Will Wade is not there. Texas hired the wrong coach. They didn't do their homework.

Assistant coaches in both collegiate and pro-sports are under valued. That is why I didn't question CMC bringing some of his like others did.

Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't UALR beat Purdue like one day before we played them?

Actually two days before we played them :) Purdue was a Top #15 squad as a #5 seed and let UALR 63-49 with 4:25 to go in the game. Did UALR beat them...absolutely. Was I loving the fact that we didn't have to play Purdue that Saturday...absolutely. Iowa State made the Sweet 16 and I enjoyed the ride but even to the most pessimistic fan the Sweet 16 was the minimum expectation for the 15-16 team.

Didn't say that he doesn't get credit but I think there is context. In what fashion did the 2014-15 squad "luck its way" into a conference tournament title? The 2014-15 also included a 12-6 Big 12 conference record compared to 10-8 last year. As I have discussed at length in multiple threads I don't think that 2015-16 was a massive underachievement but I'm also not going to coin it a massive success either.
Um, Texas blew it and OU missed a layup, that's how.

It is such a fine line between win and lose, they should have lost to OU, that was a brutal miss.

Texas blew a significant lead in the last minute. If Felix doesn't take that ill advised three we probably lose that game. The OU win was equally as lucky. I'm not complaining but we were gifted a couples wins before the matchup with KU.

Man I love this fan base. Team that goes to Sweet 16... meh. Team that Cosmo Kramers its way to a conference tournament title before losing as a #3 seed to a team that easily could have been a 15 seed... success!

Too bad Purdue wasn't Iowa State and had the ability to run those guys out of the gym and keep them out of there.

Actually Texas led by 10 with 3:30 to go and Iowa State erased that ten point lead in less than two minutes. It was tied with about 1:30 to go in the game. Even if Spangler makes that layup we are heading to OT.

Iowa State played their best ball of the year against UALR and credit goes to Prohm for getting them ready on a short turnaround. We shot 30-53 from the floor and 11-21 from 3 point land. #31 was absolutely unstoppable. Loved every bit of it but my expectation for that team at the start of the season was to contend for the Big 12 regular-season title and get to the Sweet 16.

Didn't Iowa State blow out #4 Kansas in like January?

This I know: I don't take pride in being right or wrong about Coach Prohm. I like him as our coach and think he can do great things at Iowa State. Yes, he took over a successful program. But what did he do? Took that team to the Sweet 16. Got a win over the #1 team in the country. Turned McKay into more of a team player. This year he's going to take us to another NCAA tournament. Next year may be a step back, but even Kentucky has missed the NCAA tournament more recently than us. And, I'm excited to see what he can do with this great recruiting class he has brought in.

I love watching this team play. If you don't, I'll gladly take your tickets to the remaining home games.

They beat Kansas 85-72 in Hilton. It was a great win as well. But even in that game Kansas let by 9 with 18 minutes to go in the game. In the UALR game we basically dominated the game from start to finish, we were incredibly efficient on offense and we played very good defense.
