Re: Matt

He's only one of 3 guys who can play a whole game without jamming his head straight up his ***.

Prohm needs to go post shopping in the off-season. And after that, defense shopping.

Well, I'm pretty sure that is what he is going to do. He seems a little more committed to defense than Hoiberg and he might recruit with a slightly different eye. I think we need to give him a chance to show he can do it with his style of players. I think we can all agree, this team was not built for defense. No Hoiberg team ever was. We talk about our defensive stoppers, but they were just the best guy we had WHO COULD ALSO HIT 3 POINTERS.

We're just not the same when the ball isn't going down, but that really has been the case for the past 4 years. Not a Prohm issue. It's just the make up of the team. And when Naz went down, we lost a key element to the core of that offensive capability.

We should just keep rooting for the guys, show them that we appreciate their efforts and not act like babies when we don't get our way. It is not a good look and does nothing to help them do better.

Matt Thomas 1-6 three pointers.....so sick of the commentators saying he is a "good shooter" just because he is a honkie.
He did play good defense though....not bagging on him. just miss Naz or what this type of team needs. A shooter.
Hey George Jefferson, they call him a great shooter because he's shooting something like 43% from 3, which truly is great. Not good, but great.

Agree with everything you wrote. But add in no HS recruits for two years and you end up with 0.0 pts off the bench. Can't win the tough, close games with NO bench.
I have to really laugh at some of the idiotic comments here. The criticism of the players and the coach are truly laughable. We have one of the all time great Cyclones this year who does it all, and after this year, he will be gone. For me, I hate losing, but I still love to watch Niang. And I know I need to enjoy it because he will be gone next year.

We also get to watch one of the best point guards in the Conference, and in all likelihood, he will be gone too. Again, I am going to enjoy watching him - easier in a win, but he still impressed in a loss.

As for this season, and dashed expectations, go back to the start of the year. With all the hopes people had for the Cyclones, if someone had said at the start of the year that there would be no Naz Long and McKay would be nothing like his B12 defensive player of the year self this year, no one would have expected us to do better than we are. So why all the vitriol. Why all the shaming. Simply ridiculous - and childish.

I also really enjoy watching MT; talk about effort and determination. And Burton, while frustrating sometimes, has some really great moments and is getting better as he plays more. He is only 6'4" and plays way above his height. You can whine all you want; I wish we won more, but as a BB fan, I can still enjoy the play. But I would enjoy it more if we won.

That was not a good effort tonight. Our defense didn't get off the bus. Baylor didn't have to work for anything. Some of it was to lack of hustle getting back and set, some of it was not being zoned in mentally to where we were supposed to be. We gave a MUCH better effort in our loss at Lubbock than tonight.

We all love watching Georges and Monte as well...as far as the team getting ripped on...it probably wouldn't happen as much if they played like they gave a **** on the defensive end of the court..there is no way you can honestly say you watched the game, and thought we played hard on defense.

It's not an issue of playing hard or playing with effort. It's clearly fundamental. Help defense extends too far out, gets drawn too far in, and for too long. Every player leaves there feet with the pump fake. Can't keep post players off the block. Inability to keep the player with the ball from getting the edge.

Well I hate to add to this but the story of the year is lack of depth. Despite having great players in Niang and Morris, and a really solid starting 5, the fact is as the season wears on playing 5 guys the entire time basically just kills. I think it hurts the defensive end of the floor because they just can't be aggressive due to fouls. They do a great job of not fouling but comes at the expense of not playing strong D. I have said all year, if I were coaching against this team, I think I would say no 3's and just pound it inside. Either you will score easy, get fouled or get a shot blocked. 2 of those outcomes work against ISU and we saw it with Baylor. No way Baylor is a better team but twice we have lost. Also, it comes down again to the fact every game we play is a close game. Why can't we blow someone out and maybe rest the starters??? My answer ??? When things start going well and we build a bit of a lead you see players start worrying about getting their's. It was a tough, bad loss in a game we should have won. But we have seen this same recipe for losses all year long. Now with 8 losses!! Who would have thought that.

It's both...there were countless times tonight when we just didn't hustle back to get set and it cost us a layup or left us scrambling and a pass behind...and that's effort.

I do agree we have real fundamental problems on d too though.

Doesn't matter if we aren't winning basketball games

You probably believe in participation trophies as well, huh?

Interesting:

from 20:00 - 7:11 of second half (Baylor Time Out):
7/22 Baylor offensive possessions involved an ISU foul.
4/28 ISU offensive possessions involved a Baylor foul.

From 7:11 - 0:00 of second half:
5/10 Baylor offensive possessions involved an ISU foul.
2/14 ISU offensive possessions involved a Baylor foul.

When we try and tighten up the defense, officials foul us out of the gym. Calls against Baylor were consistent all night. Calls against us were not.

By comparison, there were 5 fouls on ISU for the entire first half - and none after about the midway point. It is very apparent we are trying to avoid foul trouble. However, when we do try and play defense we are getting called for a significant amount of fouls.
