Looks like it could be personal issues if he is being treated like that.

Did you watch the second half? Hero ball has always been a part of Hoiball. Every player on this team is guilty, many with a higher frequency than BDJ, with less rebounding and defense. One of the most limiting influences on this season has been a poor plan in incorporating BDJ into the offense. Long twos are not that big of deal, not when you have guys jacking up horrible 3s.

BDJ's biggest issue has been discipline on defense, but that too is widespread.

I think the stat book will disagree with you on that one.

I do think the offense flows better without him when he's off, hence part of the reason he may be the quickest one to lose playing time. In saying that I will say Fred hasn't done a great job implementing him into the offense. As good as he is it seems the isolation stuff may not be for him.

Also, I don't buy that he is needed to make a big run in the tournament. Sure, him playing his best will make a deep tournament run more likely, but we've seen this team play plenty well without him and I think they could lose him and still have the deepest run of the Hoiberg era.

I speculated that he wants to contribute, and that competitive people don't like to be singled out for things (if that's happened) that they can see other people continuing to do.

There can only be 5 people on the floor at one time. The coach's job is to decide which combination of people gives the team the best chance to succeed. The team (including BDJ) wasn't playing good defense during the first half on Monday night, which can be seen by watching the game stream. Given all the badness, a reasonably successful and knowledgeable coach had to pick from the "best" of the badness, and that didn't happen to include BDJ on Monday night. I can understand being disappointed, and I can certainly understand not being happy-smiley-face while sitting on the bench after being taken out.

However, there is absolutely no excuse for not going into the locker room at half time, if that part is indeed true. That kind of response to a gametime coaching decision (in particular a decision that is quite justifiable), no matter who does it, isn't competitiveness, it's just being a selfish, lousy teammate, and disrespecting the coach.

I think Edozie can give us five to seven quality minutes if we need him

I agree with the first paragraph, and we were stuck having to have a lineup out there.

I'm not sure that we have an actual source for the second one, though. Just a guy that likes to single out one player on the site. If it happened, it's a bit much. It's far from proven right now.

Maybe so, but you might want to wait for a little more information than anonymous comments from anonymous sources on a free message board before you bother repeating and speculating on such questionable information.

I don't have any information one way or another, but it certainly hasn't been reported by any legitimate sources, and I'm not gonna run the guy down based on something one poster on Cyclone Fanatic said.

I agree with you totally here. Body language of a kid that is truly trying hard, having a bad game and just being frustrated with themselves, not teammates can look awfully selfish. Maybe he is frustrated because he is failing his teammates. Nobody thinks of this typically. Maybe he thinks he isn't helping as well as he should. I never see him barking at his teammates at all. You know who I did see barking at their teammates a lot, and it could have been interpreted much different than it was, especially given his history, Deandre Kane.

BDJ would be much more effective in my opinion offensively if he drove it to the hoop strong and got the and ones, and resists taking all the fadeaways. Kane did that ALOT, the things that typically happen--> 2 shots, and 1s, layups/dunks, no-calls (leads to make-up calls) or rejections. Most of those are positive things. I hope he gets it right, I really do. Its on him now.

This. I've been thinking this to myself for last couple of weeks. Early on, that's what he was doing when he was finding a mismatch. If he would do that early, see a couple buckets go in, and work his way out. He'd be confident the rest of the way. Last couple of games he's been taking long 2's/3's. We all know the kid can play. He may be in his own head right now and I'm sure he wants to win. That's what he said he came here for. He could be disappointed in himself, who knows honestly. Whether it's mental, physical or both; I hope he comes back around in time.

I'm not disagreeing but he was also doing that when McKay wasn't eligible and Georges was at the 5. Georges isn't as much of a post as Jameel, so the lane was open significantly more for BDJ to cut thru.

Agree to disagree. BDJ brings rebounding ability and length to the defensive side of the ball. Something the Cyclones occasionally have difficulty with. If ISU got matched up with a big physical or length rebounding team, he is very much needed for a more effective run. The team did step it up against OU in the 2nd half without him, but we both know that BDJ is not just about offensive output. We need him on both ends, but defensively is just as important.

BDJ can be a great defensive player. Along with McKay we have a great presence inside and outside on D. I hope Fred and his teammates gen get him on the right page

Well, he had been hitting those shots until the past few games. Fred is known for not taking players out of games for missing shots, so it's more likely that he wasn't playing defense the way Fred wanted him to.

As he's generally taller and more athletic than other guards, I have been wondering why Fred doesn't start the game posting him up. Once the shooter sees the shot go in, even if it's a layup or free throw, they generally start hitting their shots.

The problem is BDJ is inconsistent on defense too. When playing hard, he's incredible, when he gets out of position frankly he's a below average defender. If he brings it at the defensive end then I think he'd be playing almost regardless of his offensive output.

I get what you are saying, but people ripped on the kid when other players were making mistakes as well, if not worse. Thomas and BDJ have been the whipping boys of this year, while others weren't receiving the same criticism. Naz has had inconsistent up and down games. Same with Georges. Him and Hogue have been turnover machines lately. I think people just tend to sweep them under the rug given their tenure here and what they've done in the past as well as their more upbeat attitudes. Since BDJ carries a past, carries himself differently (more reserved) than others, he could be misunderstood. So given his demeanor, people don't think he cares. I'm not going to sit here and act like I know the kid, cuz I don't. But when people say his teammates love him, I'm going to believe them.

The same could be said for Naz, Thomas, and sometimes Monte.
