Freshman all-american teams are frequently filled with guys who played a lot, who aren't necessarily all that good. I'm not saying Cotton-Maya is bad, but his presence on that team isn't a huge indicator of anything.

Cotton-Maya isn't on any of Steele's top four teams. Tribune is 3rd team, and Knott is 4th team for the Cyclones.

Iowa has Ott 2nd, King 3rd, Lomax 4th.

We can argue all we like, but tomorrow is what matters.

Do you know how many true freshman start at big schools? It's actually quite a lot.

Clearly Oklahoma stinks. I can't believe they started a freshman running back last year... who broke the all-time single game rushing record a week after Melvin Gordon broke it. B3KQWivCIAAXBao.jpg

This is all going to be decided Saturday. Richardson should have the advantage with all those starts under his belt and 'the best WR's in ISU history'. Iowa has the best secondary I can remember in some time and I predict Richardson has an abysmal game. Give me CJB all day, twice on Sunday.

You definitely didn't say in recent years

Cotton-Moya is going to blast a couple of those sorry Iowa WRs if they come over the middle. Lieutenant Dan should probably stick to shrimpin'

That's synonymous

If "best you can remember in some time" means better than the 2009-2010 secondary you're wrong as usual. And this Tyler kid is definitely not better than Sash, he could end up that way but he's done nothing in his career so far at all

The proof is in the production on the field not how many stars some recruiting service puts next to his name or what other schools have offered a kid.

Iowa fans sure seem to love a kid named CJ Beathard... the chosen one... He must be a complete dud too as he was just a lower end 3* kid with offers from Iowa, Mississippi coming off of a 2-10 season, SMU, and Tulane. Based on his offers and rating that kid must absolutely suck right?

Beathard's popularity is all all relative to Rudocks inability to move the ball and the fact that KF refused to play CJB last year despite the fans and poor performance from Rudock. It's not like Iowa fans think CJ is an All American, we're just rejoicing because we finally got our wish are sure to see less 3 and outs and more big plays.

I would like to see Bethard behind the hideous lines Sam has had the past few years. I think Sam likewise, if he had a true pocket that stayed in tact for 4 seconds would have a better record in conference and could showcase his skills.

Statistically better last year than Beathard

No doubt Iowa fans' fascination with Beathard was partially due to the "backup syndrome." I think you ISU fans are familiar with that with the QB carousel prior to Richardson taking hold of the job.

Rudock statistically was not bad last year. His physical limitations and dismal way he performed at the end (Nebraska and Tennessee) had the fan base ready to make the change.

Iowa fans' expectations are likely too high for Beathard. I hope I'm wrong.

Small sample size, and CJ didn't have the practice reps. Look at game 1 for the season this year. Rudock is the same player. An awful one.
It had nothing to do with Rudock playing against Utah under a new coach and system and Iowa playing against Ill St

I'd say this entire argument is completely stupid. If you could surround both players with the same roster and call the same plays then you could decide who is better. Sam is better than Rohach. Beathard is better than Rudock. Too many other variables to objectively compare Sam to Beathard without making a ton of useless assumptions/opinions, none of which make you any more right or make this conversation any more valuable.

Stupid arguments are stupid.

Yes, we could revive the Stanzi vs. Arnaud argument that was hot and heavy prior to the 2009 game. :) Sorry, just had to bring a little levity.
