It's not like being born in 1995 prevents someone from listening to and enjoying older music. I was 4 years old when Kurt Cobain died. Doesn't mean I can't consider Nirvana one of the best ever.

5 of the 8 favorite albums I listed were from before I was born and that's mostly Rock and R&B, two others came out when I was 5. Exactly one of my "favorite" albums is from "my" time.

With hip hop it's even easier to know less albums over fewer years that it's been around.

So this is a symantics issue really...no one can define the BEST album but everyone has a FAVORITE!!! Debate like the wind! My personal favorites on the genres I feel informed on are:
Symbol of Salvation or Ride the Lightning- Metal
Never mind the bullocks - punk
Best of Jerry Jeff Walker - Country

Peace to all!! Musical taste is sooooooooo personal

Urbandale
Rubber Soul - The Beatles
Abbey Road - The Beatles
The Bends - Radiohead
Forever Changes - Love (forgotten masterpiece)
Murmur - REM (kudos to whoever mentioned it before)
What's Goin On - Marvin Gaye
Thriller - Michael Jackson
Pet Sounds - Beach Boys

tough to pick but it'd be among those for me

Personally, I would eliminate Marvin Gaye. That's only because after growing up near Detroit, I would be happy to never hear another Motown song as long as I lived. That was the majority of what I heard on the radio until FM appeared with progressive rock.

As a companion to the best song ever thread, what do you think is the best album of all time? Darkside of the Moon comes pretty close for me but the one album I can listen to over and over again without getting tired of it is Oasis - What's The Story Morning Glory?

The hits off of it were great (Wonderwall, Champagne Supernova, What's the Story Morning Glory?) but the other songs are equally as awesome. Here's my favorite off of the album.

[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rAF4Uhiprbo]YouTube - Oasis - Hello + Lyrics[/ame]

You already mentioned it & its not even close.....Dark Side of the Moon by Pink Floyd.

Back in Black by AC/DC - think about this? The band lost their lead singer who everyone thought was one of the best. T replace him with Brian Johnson & even become BIGGER is unfathomable!

I'm a big time Beatles freak, so I'll agree with Abbey Road.

Another big one that hasn't been mentioned as a classic, my favorite highway cruising album, is Simon and Garfunkel
s Greatest hits. i could drive across the nation with than album on repeat.

In semi- recent history, Ben Fold's "Whatever and Ever Amen". Album about a girl done did a dude wrong. Easily relate able, very musical. Good schtuff.

Most prolific: Dark Side of the Moon (and it's not close)

Most Raw: Nirvana MTV Unplugged

I don't know what you call Thriller but it has to be mentioned in this category. I can't even tell you what my favorite is. I probably listen to that Nirvana album in whole more than anything so I suppose that's it. I also had a nostalgic moment a couple weeks ago and Nellyville is still a fun album to listen to. I'm going to get killed for that, I know.

Television-Marquee Moon or Lou Reed Take No Prisoners. Btw, I have a record store in Des Moines-- Uncle Mo's 516 Euclid. Stop on in, mention you saw this on Rivals and get 10 percent off any purchase

Personal favorites that I haven't seen yet.
1. Alice in Chains - Dirt, but could've gone with facelift or Jar of Flies
2. Public Enemy- Fear of a Black Planet, not a hip hop fan really but loved this album as a kid.
3. Uncle Tupelo- No Depression

Just because you CAN consider them one of the greatest ever doesn't mean you SHOULD.

Thanks to whoever dusted this thread off. Will reiterate Appetite for Destruction as the best album of all time.
