Thank God you aren’t our AD. ISU is not in a financial position to be adding fluff. It has to make money, be a necessity or paid for by donors. This isn’t hard.

The only way a new press box happens is if we get so many people looking to pour money into luxury suites ISU only has the option to expand up. Then a new press box could be incorporated into suites on top of the stadi

Bingo its a freaking press box, who cares?

This.

I would say, it they decided they need more club sections, it could push the expansion.

That could mean taking the suites out of the West side to add club sections like the JT club. Then need to add suites in the skybox.

Could mean they decide to add club section in a skybox.

Or could be a combination. But until there is enough demand for the above and no other place to go that is cheaper, it will not happen.

Press box envy is one of the dumbest things in our fanbase. Seriously, there are a lot of other stadiums with small or no skybox. Why because they are in other areas of the stadium....JUST LIKE JTS!

I dont hate it.

Its just a run down dump. I am calling it what it is.

Our Spartan is the one that is saying it is Nice... somehow.

I will say the sketchiest Gas Station and bathroom I have ever been in was in Detroit. Like I have never been in any place even close to as sketchy.
Just a lot of energy to spend tearing down a city for no apparent reason

I guess you've never been to a gas station in Gary, Indiana or West Virginia.

Actually I have both.

Gary was sketch but not as bad, nothing close to Detroit, and no I am not talking right off the interstate, in town Gary. (needless to say I was in the wrong place.)

I just spent multiple days driving the back roads and main roads all over WVU, last month. Sketchy, but more hillbilly meth head sketchy, again sketchy in its own way, but not close to what I was in, in Detroit.

Detroit is so much more on another level. I cant even describe how bad it was and do it justice. I personally would have never stopped there, but I wasnt driving that night.

But it does sound like at least they are doing better...in the immediate downtown. It would be hard to do worse than what they had been doing.

But I have to stop talking about this, cuz people get mad when we get off the exact subject of the thread. Not like almost every thread hasnt gotten side tracked on random subjects for one reason or another.

I mean its nice that we see people that never give any input on the subject come in and actually comment and complain about being off subject. So at least we get them involved in some way. :otz:

I think if someone approached Jamie Pollard with $50 million to donate for a new press box project, he would likely proceed with the project.
This. For all the people in this thread saying ISU needs a bigger press box, get your check books out if you want to see it happen. Until people directly donate money towards a press box, ISU athletics has MUCH greater priorities to funnel internal money towards.

Not sure why I am seeing your response because you are on my blocked list, but oh well.

You understand I am responding to someone right. Just as I am here. Dont want to hear about it more, stop commenting at me about it.

Already said I am trying to move on.... but apparently others cant.

You are the one who has made 8 posts here about Detroit in the last day and a half. As I said, that seems weird.

As I reply to you again, notice I was replying to people in every case but 1. So....

Again, maybe you should let it go, so we can move on. Somehow I have to figure out how to get you back on the blocked list, because you still show there but for some reason I am now seeing you again. You literally are so worried about it that you counted my posts on it, whos being weird now.

Edit: you are welcome to add me to your blocked list if you dont like my posts.

Ahh, who are we kidding? Of course I’m weird. You also went back to see how many times you were responding…..

You don’t get my engagement. My only point is that Detroit is not some hell hole. Or St Louis. Or Chicago because of “Gary”.

After 8 posts from you and more from others piling on I pointed out how it was weird to be talking about it, especially not in the cave. I trust my own visits and our friendly spartan friend to set the record straight.

No one has said the press box is too small for the press, its all about appearance and how it looks to the outsider as they view the game. If it looks like the press box one would see at a small college or high school, that is the impression you have, whether its true or not does not matter.

No modern stadium can ever have enough suites, that is where the largest amount of revenue is going to be made. Look at Arrowhead in KC, one of the best stadiums in the league, but they always want more suites because that is where the money is being made and therefore looking at building a new stadium.

In todays world appearance is reality, does not matter if its true or not.
Honestly how the press box looks is probably a big "who cares" for even the most hardcore Cyclone football supporter.

And yet they are always dismissive of their conference's role in the whole thing. It's almost like they're lying.
Nobody has told the (B1G & SEC) what they did or are doing is wrong. They have the power and backing to do mostly what they want. Who is to stop them?

They feel like they can get away with anything and up until now they just about have. The rest of us are secondary to their whims and direction.

I wonder what college sports and football will look like in 20 years? So many recent changes have not been for the betterment of the whole, or the students.

Obviously any knowledgeable fan understands the likelihood of ever getting a true “big boy” press box at JTS is very low. We get it - the financials, priorities, yada, yada, yada. And that (also obviously) isn’t the point. The point is that it looks small-time from the outside. Outsiders look at our stadium and see it as less than. The nation sees a dinky press box and a stadium that has a “gee golly they sure are trying aren’t they!!” feel to it. The Sukup end zone looks cheap. The materials look cheap. Our 1987 erector-set lights look cheap as hell. And goofy as hell. They look like they were purchased at county fair outdoor lighting sale. The Jacobson building - which took an act of GOD to get built - was outdated and far too small almost instantly. The scoreboard contraption on top of it - woof! A lot of us fans are “OK” with it because we’ve never been a true big boy football program. Our press box - yes as obviously stupid as it sounds - is the perfect small/schmedium-time press box for our program. That’s what we’ve produced and that’s how we are viewed from the outside. But hey, it’s WAY better than things used to be, right!?

Our football program is currently doing some great things - and I personally am pumped for this season and the potential to take a step towards the highest levels this season. JTS as an atmosphere on game days has come a long ways and I’m confident it will be really loud and intimidating again this season. But it’s also perfectly OK to acknowledge what it’s not and have silly unattainable fan pipe dreams of what it could be for it to be in par with some of the bigger players in CFB…

Look Everyone, this discussion about Big 12 schools and sharing opinions is cool and all, but can we get back to opinions on Detroit and other posters counting the amount of time Detroit is mentioned? I would appreciate it.
