I think the geographical names are limiting and act to make the conference look weaker/smaller. The numeric names have obvious problems with any changing constituency.

I'd suggest changing every word in the name from the defining descriptor to changing from "conference" to "league" or "association". Something like "Champions League" is a little bit much for me but closer to what I'm thinking.

As long as they keep naming rights to the big XII, I'm fine with it. Make the Big 10 pay to include their other two teams in their name.

From the linked article

"The Big 12 has come to similar conclusions if they are considering a name change. The move would likely be to remove the “12″ in some form. The conference has hired GSD&M Idea City to consider new name ideas. It’s a safe assumption that if a move were made to remove the “12″ that the conference would be less likely to expand in the near future as changing the brand would be a permanent change."

I hope they do change the name if we aren't expanding back to 12. I think the Big 12 name kind of makes the conference look weak since everyone will see it and remember that we lost two teams. I kind of like the name The Central Conference since Mid American and Heartland are already taken, Southwest Conference feels wrong, and Midwest Conference (MWC) is to similar to the Mountain West Conference (MWC). Anyone got any other serious suggestions?

1. I-35 League

2. KOMIT League (for the States of Kansas, Oklahoma, Missouri, Iowa, Texas)

Let's call a spade a spade.

Wait....Texas is leaving in 5 years....nevermind.

Nah. If they were going to do this, they would have done this 5 months ago. They have what they wanted more than anything: an attached harem that allows them their own Network. They won't ever get a better deal, and they know it.

Don't get why people think this.

It's a lot of hate towards a school that kept us from becoming non-BCS.

Not sure how you get hate from anything I stated. Truth maybe? Hate? Well...yeah. But not because of conference alignment.

For the people who don't want to sell out, how is the Dr. Pepper Conference any different from the Dr. Pepper Big XII Championship?

Dr. Pepper already has a long history with the league. Why not milk some more cash out of our cow?

I thought the B10 consulted with the ghost of E. Gary Gygax when they chose "Legends and Leaders" as their division names; sounds like a new RPG game. What's wrong with names like Schembechler and Hayes, the two biggest legends of the Big 10?

As for a name change for the Big 12, I still like "Great Plains Conference" with the initials of "GPC." Another idea is to identify the conference with only initials as many other brands are identified that way nowadays. BTC anyone?

8+4-2=10 condensed to Big 84210. Just kidding. Although it is accurate. Wonder what town has that zipcode.
