BYU has wanted B12 affiliation for a long time (really since 1996 when we thought it might happen and then again in 2011 and 2016). The BYU board (cougarboard.com) is trilled. We have had a great football schedule in September and October, but no meaningful November games for a decade. Now we get a really great schedule and meaningful November games. We have loved playing Gonzaga every year in basketball but now get KU, Baylor, ISU, TT, WVa and the rest. I had hoped for games starting in 2022, but 2023 will come soon enough.

Lots of issues with college football and athletics going forward, but this is an exciting day for BYU

Hind site, we take BYU instead of Baylor that might of been enough to send Texas packing which would of made it possible to keep Oklahoma, A&M, Missouri, Nebraska and Colorado. Nitpick all you want but Texas for the most part drove those schools away.

I forget if I saw it here or Twitter, but it matched SEC teams to our Big 8 remaining schools. Then asked if Texas would leave that group.

Of course they would. Texas is toxic.

Cougarboard.com - and I thought Tigerboard.com was dated. BYU starts off by setting a new standard. I felt like I reentered my childhood with Pacman.

I always found it weird that people made a big deal about scheduling around Sunday for BYU. I'm sure it's occurred, but I can't recall a Sunday FB or BB game. Was that ever a legit gripe, or was it just people hating on BYU in general?

I have nothing against Baylor, but BYU would have been a much stronger add to the original B12. Texas was always going to be Texas and there isn't anything that any other school or partner could do to curb that massive ego. I don't think anyone can say what would have happened in an alternative history where BYU joins the B12 in 1996, but a stronger conference is always better so hopefully the addition now helps everyone going forward.

Same here. It might apply to the non-"power" sports (I know little about scheduling arrangement for those, either XII-wise or BYU) ... but consider MBB, for example -- how often has ISU played on Sunday unless it was (1) Buy-games in non-conference (2) vs. B1G (such as U-M in '13-14)? WBB might be different for Big 12, not sure without checking ... anyway, seems like it's a non-factor.

WBB is predominantly played on Sundays. K-State has played MBB as well. B12 Tournament used to end on Sundays. But it can certainly be managed. We don't need to make an issue of religion from crying out loud.

I hope the money works out. I think it would be enjoyable to have a conference not dominated by a single institution or two. A conference of equals is very appealing to me.
F*ck that noise, We are the big dogs now!!! Let's eat!!!

I don't disagree. The challenge is how to handle 7 - 10,000 posts per day in an efficient format. As I said before, on days like this where there is an even higher volume (already over 5,000 posts) it becomes more like a chat room than a message board

I understand that as a fan, but conferences and media partners have made it clear for a while that none of that matters. I am looking at it from a lens of what helps create the most value/lift for ISU and games with 300K viewers isn’t part of that. Sadly, it’s a different world.

I don’t think this is right from the B12 perspective. Given history and proximity, ISU-KU and UC-WVU games draw better than KU-WVU and UC-ISU. It’s about maximizing collectively. Your big brands are all playing someone anyway. Playing rivalries and regional games is one way to maximize overall; another would be trying to get the good teams to play each other more - but no conference has done that yet, unless you count the B1G stacking its East division when it scrapped Legends and Leaders.

What happens if BYU makes the tournament and gets seeded to play on a Sunday to advance to the Sweet 16? do they just not play it?

BYU is always in a Thursday-Saturday first weekend site. Not sure if they also go in a Thursday-Saturday region for the S16/E8 but I’m sure they make that accommodation. They simply do not play on Sundays.

The committee is pretty careful to put BYU into the Thursday - Saturday draws in the Tournament
