Yeah that would be neat, but how do you pick the best two teams from 2 groups? AP? FPI? Record and a bunch of tiebreaks? What if the best 2 teams are in the same group (eg UCLA/USC or UW/UO)? I like it but it gets messy.

I do think that a Big12 with 2 divisions would give the Clones a better chance to make it to the CCG.

I wonder what it will look like in 2022?
>Will OuT be gone?
>Which (if any) of the new 4 will arrive early?
>What will be the divisions / scheduling pending all the above?

The Big12 could have anywhere from 8 to 14 teams next year.

It's interesting to think about... I think most likely is 10 (current 10) or 11 (current+BYU). But that is just my feeling ... things could also move quickly if tx/ou come to the table with $ and B12 decides it is better off taking the $ than trying to force them to stay a couple more seasons.

If we had 8 teams, it might be fun to do a basketball style B8 tournament at the end of the season with home games for the higher seeds (only 7 conf games, 8 team conf playoff would add 1-3 games, for the first round losers, they can add one more game matching the 4 losers against each other to get to 9).

If we go to 11, I think you could do a 8 game conf schedule and "top 4" go to the championship bracket. Other 7 would also play 1 additional game (one would have to play 2) similar to last year's "championship week" in the b10. Also, I would love a deal where we add BYU and then schedule conf road games to Provo for both tx and ou in what would likely be their last season..

If we have 14... I think we play 2 div like the other 14 team leagues. I don't really like the "best two" in that scenario... too many ways for that to go wrong.. Think about this year if baylor didn't have to play OU and gets into the ccg over us with each of us with 2 losses.

I thought the 4 new members are not slated to join until 2025.

They are scheduled to join "no later than 2024" and Bowlsby has been open and up front about the hope that they will join in 2023. The new schools that the American poached from C-USA are joining the AAC in 2023, so that would make sense as a transition year. I think smart money is on OU and UT playing their first season in the SEC in 2023 as well, but it wouldn't completely shock me if we gave them one season of playing road games at the new member schools first.

Houston has a 4th quarter lead and the ball over #19 SMU. If Houston can hang on, they’ll be 7-1 and ranked next week.

That’ll make 3/4 new teams ranked at some point this season. And UCF is on pace to go 8-4.

The Big 12 version 4.0 won’t have prestige, but it will have a ton of ranked teams

Sunday night pod had the most refreshing comment regarding the new Big 12. This will be a conference of equals. Sure that might be a slight exaggeration but as ISU fans are we really looking down (or up) at any other team in the conference? I for one am becoming excited for this next chapter. In fact I think we should adopt the slogan “Conference of Equals” if only to as a reminder to the teams in top heavy conferences like the Big 10 and SEC.

I think BYU and KU will try to look down but neither has the cachet to do it. Won’t be nearly as bad as texa$.

Any clout from KU bball gets completely negated by their fb team. BYU is an easy target. Look up “soaking” and “jump humping” for starters.

Random bump here: my lunch conversation with a coworker today was discussing future division scheduling. Honestly trying to make just two divisions out of this seems like a headache.

Best we could come up that wouldn't royally screw the extreme east/west teams.

North/West:
BYU
Tech
OkSU
KSU
KU
ISU

East/South:
Houston
Baylor
TCU
Cincy
WVU
UCF

It's already been reported as...

Cincy
WVU
UCF
KSU
KU
ISU

East/South:
BYU
Tech
OkSU
Houston
Baylor
TCU

I'm ok with that configuration, but I'd much rather just go to pod scheduling with 2 permanent rivals and top 2 teams make the championship game. Weak divisions suck a lot of fun out of those games (see Iowa this year). Potential pods...

This is the best alignment! And it makes for straight forward scheduling: 8 conference games per year, 2 against pod rivals, and play 2 of the 3 other pods on a rotating schedule. Top 2 teams meet in the CCG.

Yep, but they’re staying at 9 conference games. More inventory for TV. Just play 3 teams in a pod that rotates to a new pod every year

I think your East and West are flipped. While that’s my preferred alignment, where have you seen it reported anywhere? Hoping you are correct. This would be a lot of fun.

I don't think there is a great way to do this so maybe not naming the divisions geographically would be best.

Division A
Division B

Just not legends and leaders..lol

I know it cheapens it a bit, but they can call it the Google and Microsoft Divisions for all I care.
Get a couple million extra per school.

I just don't like divisions that say North and it has UCF in it. Or west and West Virginia is in it, etc.
