Is there really brand recognition for Big 12, though? The conference is changing so much. I wouldn't care if it was the AllState 12 for a few years, then the Texaco 12, then something else.

I don't think NASCAR has had a lot of issues going from Winston Cup to Nextel Cup to Sprin tCup to Monster Energy NASCAR cup to NASCAR cup.

That said, I'd prefer INSERT COMPANY HERE Big 12, but I don't think its a big deal either way.

I'm curious about the private equity. What does a 20% share actually mean? Does that mean that firm gets 20% of all revenue? They just distributed $470M to schools this year. 20% of that would be $94M. If an equity firm paid $1B, it'd take them 11 years to profit on it, right?

If a team lost 20% of their payout this year, that'd be about $7M. However if they got a 1/16 of the $1B, that's a $62.5M influx of cash. Would getting $62.5M up front be worth losing 20% going forward long term? I don't know, but I'd imagine there are numbers where it would be worth it.

Didn't some of the new teams state emphatically that they wanted to keep the name "Big 12" because of its brand value?

What do you who are insured by Allstate think about them dumping $1B in this deal? You are the ones paying it!

From USA TODAY:
"In addition to naming rights, Yormark and the Big 12 are "kicking the tires" on adding a private equity investment of $800 million to $1 billion according to Dennis Dodd of CBS Sports.

Luxembourg-based CVC Capital Partners would reportedly have a 15-20% share in the league. The league's 16 members would receive a portion of the money with schools then given access to CVC investment services and clients. This proposal could inch the Big 12 closer to the Big Ten media rights deal. Big Ten members currently get approximately $75 million per team. Most of the Big 12 is currently at $31.8 million per team."

Adjust or die. I mean **** at this point might as well put all your chips in and bet on yourself. The media made this decision in 2010 and we kept fighting going against all odds of survival yet here we are and the pac is gone and the ACC will implode. Our parity in conference will win everyone knows in the big ten/sec who will win every year us can be anyone, parity is more exciting. So **** it all chips in cause if you don’t the result can still be ****** it doesn’t matter.

I hope a lot of BIG and SEC fans are insured by Allstate. It would be sweet to take their money and plow it into the Big 12.

I hope Yormark makes this happen soon. I know the other conferences will follow but being the first to the table will help bridge that gap for the next 1-2 years while you explore other revenue streams.

The state of Iowa is already sticking it to the Allstate customers by raising their premiums due to all of our tornado damage claims. :)

Is getting an extra $3 million really bridging the gap when the gap is so large? Especially if it's going to be "the Allstate 12 conference" and not "the Big 12 conference sponsored by All State"

Better than not getting $3 million. The name of the conference means nothing and brings nothing. Do you really think anyone who ACTUALLY is a donor cares what the conference name is. They care about their school. It could be the Piggly Wiggly 16 and the donors at “insert school name here” are still going to donate.
