Honestly I'd rather just play more conference games with the new teams coming in. Those games are going to feel very non-conference for a little bit anyway.

Is there any hard news about number of basketball games in New Big 12?

I assume it won't stay at exactly 18.

After OUT leaves you'd need 22 to keep the full round robin.

For the weird 14 team year we could do what B10 does at 14 now and have 7 teams home and home, 3 just road, 3 just home for 20 total.

I want the big east. Just so the big ten gets to ask the PAC to do one. I think that would be entertaining to hear about.
We already have the Big East and the SEC. The B1G would replace the SEC. That being said they should publicize the Big East challenge way more.

Some schools I would've liked to have played that we didn't get the chance to:

Florida
Kentucky

Yep.

Kentucky got matched with Kansas a bunch (no surprise, that'd be the go-to ratings-driver) ... I figured ISU wouldn't get that unless the series continued for another 17 years. Getting Florida once would've been good for variety at some point.

Yeah, we seemed to get very decent variety overall, aside from getting assigned Missouri in back to back years, and 3 years total, unless one of those was just scheduled and not Big 12/SEC challange. Georgia I think is the only other school we never played, but they have a very uninteresting basketball program, in general.

I wonder if FOX does do a Big12/Big10 challenge, if they just have Iowa State vs Iowa count as the challenge every year....
It won't work like that. Cincinnati plays Xavier every year and word is that they wouldn't be scheduled as part of the Big 12 / Big East Challenge in order for them to keep their OOC rivalry separate.

If we do get a big 12/big 10 challenge, hopefully that's in December not in January. I hate having that break in conference play that pushes one more of our conference games into break with students gone.
I am in the other camp. I like the break from the conference grind with all the games in 1 day.

In the 10 years of this challenged who played Kentucky? Kansas did probably 8 of the 10 times.
KU faced UK the most times (good assumption), but "only" 50%.

Kentucky opponents:
Kansas (5) - 2016, 2017, 2019, 2022, 2023 (scheduled)
Texas (2) - 2015 (2021 scheduled, canceled due to pandemic)
Baylor - 2014
Texas Tech - 2020
West Virginia - 2018

(edited to include the '23 matchup)

KU faced UK the most times (good assumption), but not as many times as many would assume.

Kentucky opponents:
Kansas (4) - 2016, 2017, 2019, 2022
Texas (2) - 2015 (2021 scheduled, canceled due to pandemic)
Baylor - 2014
Texas Tech - 2020
West Virginia - 2018
Yeah, but in the off years they played each other in the champions classic I'm sure.

Theyve played pretty much every year since 2014, its just alternated between the SEC\B12 challenge and the champions classic.

In a lot of years it was the only P6 team other than Iowa we would play in the WBB N/C. I'll miss that unless it gets replaced with something like Big10/12.

Please more Michigan matchups. That 2 game set we had with Hoiball was great.
