Yeah, 2007 was essentially the only time we've had a chance against OU in my lifetime. We probably would have won that game if we had a fullback who could gain some ground in short yardage situations (gee, something that still plagues us even to this day). Instead, we had Jason Scales ramming himself into the line on 3rd and 4th and short plays and not getting anywhere. I also remember Sam Bradford flat out missing wide open receivers running around in the secondary.

And to finish - the ISU patent throw interception in the end zone.

Reminder this game immediately followed the Texas game where our team absolutely laid down for a complete *** beating.

Yeah, 2007 was essentially the only time we've had a chance against OU in my lifetime.

My "in my lifetime" is longer than quite a few of us on CF, so I have a couple more "almosts" vs. OU, in Ames and in Norman.

1. 1981. ISU 7, @OU 7. Some of you may be able to refresh my memory about specifics, but my basic recollection. Alex Giffords, a consistent PK over a 4-year career at ISU — who had booted a 58-yard FG at OU two years earlier in a blowout loss, — missed a chip shot FG in the fourth quarter that could have grabbed a 10-7 lead ... it was something like 19 yards (near extra-point range). .. Not placing the blame on Alex; it's more like "bad time for an outlier."

2. 1984. OU 12, @ISU 10. First night game at now-Trice. I was there. Sat on the southeast hillside. I had an unfortunately perfect view of this: ISU was up 10-6, on the cusp of a goal-line stand — then (go to 46-minute mark).

Runners-up:
*2012 was winnable, although it seemed less likely when it was 14-6 at halftime instead of 7-6, including two stalled drives in OU territory in 2nd quarter .... (that scenario seems oddly familiar).
*1980 game in Ames was tied 7-7 at halftime ... ended up 42-7. That one probably doesn't count.
