I assume you mean that you just dislike Vitale's broadcasting style, because he was just tremendous with ISU fans that day. You could tell that he loves being with fans and the crowds.

He loves being the center of attention. He'd enjoy being at a funeral as long as people treated him like he was the reason they were there.

Bill Walton is the only color guy who makes me laugh. Breath of fresh air, or at least different air. I love that he mentions the Iowa State Cyclones when talking about fun teams to watch. It would be great to see him in Hilton, barefoot of course.
Bill Walton has done WAY too many drugs in his lifetime. Listening to a game that he calls is exhausting. I DVR any game I want to see that he calls so I can fast forward through his mushroom fueled meanderings.

Agreed. Just like Vitale; a lot of people hate him - me included - but he was mobbed when he (finally) came to Hilton.
He was mobbed because mobbing him means you'll be on TV and people willingly make total fools of themselves if it gets them on TV. Vitale only talks about the actual game he is calling about 60% of the time. The rest is spent name dropping and telling old stories about all the famous people in and out of the sport that he has spent time with. He has decent games sometimes but others are unbearable. I watch college basketball because I want to watch two teams play, not because I want to be entertained by a clown. Let the game be the entertainment and if it's not, then carry on like a hyperactive 8 year old.

He has HAD decent games, but they were 25 years ago.

The 2nd part bolded is my biggest problem with the guy. He claims to be such a huge fan of college basketball, yet he can't stay out of the way enough to let the game be the attraction.

Good post, BDK. This is an example of exactly what is wrong with Walton in the booth. They are working a game that is in the first half, and a roughly 5 point game for duration of the clip. This is over 3 1/2 minutes and they make 4 passing references to the game action with a 5th reference starting just as the clip ends - 4! I ask you what is more important to the basketball fans watching this PAC 12 game: the game or commentary about Shane Battier, Duke, Coach K, getting one of the commentators names wrong and whatever else they were babbling about? If I was a fan of one of these teams I would be ****** that they weren't breaking down what was actually happening in the game rather than carrying on like guys at a drunken frat party. This commentary is like some surreal 2nd audio for the game, not the actual commentary for the game.

Shane Battier will be President of the United States? Did he seriously just say that? What a waste of air time.

The "fans" of Pac 12 BB could give a crap what Big Red says, they probably aren't watching much less attending the games.

70% of the games he calls either have Duke or UNC in it

Exactly. Maybe he's smarter than we all take him for and he knows he better be talking about things happening over in the parts of the country where college basketball actually matters.
