Hoiberg and his assistants burning the midnight oil (even more than they already do) and watching a whole LOT of gametape of both us (our bench/role players) and UNC film.

Find a mismatch. Exploit. Find another mismatch. Exploit. Find our weakness, help cover and minimize it.

We're kind of one-dimensional now (Kane). Just like UNC (Paige). We can still see the Sweet 16 after all these years.

So we don't have the Big 12 player of the year anymore?

We aren't just the DeAndre Kane show, but I (think) kind of get what he is saying. As amazing as Ejim is, he is not a creator. Kane and Niang could literally do WHAT they want, WHEN they want if given a one on one mismatch. Ejim is more of a finisher/rebounder/scrapper. Ejim isn't going to get the ball and impose his will time and time again in one on one scenarios. He totally deserved Big 12 POTY. Losing Niang though is losing that great High/Low game him and Ejim had. Chemistry like what they have is hard to manufacture on short notice.

That being said, I don't think we are "one dimensional." The teams that are one dimensional are either in the NIT, CBI, or done playing at this point.

Of course we do, and he's a great player in this offense. But the offense runs through Niang and Kane, so it's Kane's show now.

I think we're about to see some inspiring ****.. for as long as they can. We've got kids that are tough as hell mentally. They won't fold up like some teams would.

That's exactly what I'm saying. One-dimensional is the wrong term I guess, but it makes us a lot more like UNC - an offense highly dependent on the guard play. I'm not counting us out.

How many teams have one player that runs the show in this tourney? Alot, so dont count us out. Monte will have to be our number 2 with a ton of really good role players around the creaters. Now lets get UNC and move on to NYC.

Edit - when I say run the show I mean point. I guess I feel like a lot of teams has their go to guy. ISU just got lucky in that they had 2. I really think Morris, although he isnt Niang, can be that guy. We will suffer height wise though.

We have more options than most teams, even without Georges. Two first team all Big 12 players, a great point guard, Dustin, who is really the fourth head of the four headed monster. Naz, who has shown not only the ability to step up, but the desire.

We had seven guys who are comfortable scoring the ball. Now we have six. Main problem is someone who can hold their own defensively down low.

Roy always said Fred gave him the biggest headaches when he was a player. Now he's going to do it as a coach.

Ellerman goes Jimmy Chitwood for the win....

Edozie will come in and do more of what he did in the Big 12 Tournament. I think we beat UNC but the future is foggy after that.

I still think we can get far without Georges. It will be harder as he is such a significant part of our offense.

Kane can't play out of control. There were a couple times last night he tried to put the whole team on his shoulders, played out of control, and NCC went on a little run. He needs to be the man but trust that the others will step up and fill in for Niang.

I definitely agree with this... it'll hurt our offense for sure, but we might just get a boost in defense and rebounding, (no offense to Georges) just saying we'll probably be forced to play a bit bigger..

Now we see what Percy Gibson and Daniel Edozie are really made of. Now we see if Deandre Kane and Melvin Ejim can put the team on their shoulders. Now we see if the young guys - Thomas, Morris, and Long - can be more than contributing role players. The timing sucks and I feel awful for Georges, but I have total confidence in the guys who will have to step up in his absence. This team is too tough to pack it in. Onward to the Sweet 16!

Eh, Carolina had five guys score in double figures against Providence. They aren't one dimensional. Frankly, neither is Iowa State. Niang is probably the only guy on ISu that would be considered a match up advantage because of his unique game, but ISU has plenty of capable players. Their offensive system set up players in good position to score. They should be fine there. They just need to make sure they hit the boards strong. Carolina had 17 offensive rebounds against Providence. If ISU allows them to do that they will be in trouble.
