Great article Blum! I agree with everything you said. I'm gonna miss the North, but I'm really looking forward to the round-robin and removing the mystic around the South schools. The conference will be a family again, albeit a dysfunctional family.
Side note, I think B10 fans are in for a big shock. Divisions are really going to change the tradition of that league, just like the Big 8.

I still think ISU is going to be able to get a bit better athlete out of Texas. Nebbie has something like 25 guys from Texas on their roster. Will they continue to get guys from there? Yes, as many? No. The parents of the recruits will not have Nebraska playing ANY games within that state. Things will get expensive to see their children live. CU has 7 guys from Texas.
I think ISU will move up in the eyes of some recruits because they will play there twice a year and also a game in nearby Oklahoma. I think this instantly can help the talent gap a bit.

I like this, even McCarney had consistency in his program. Iowa State needs a long term head coach... if Paul can't, I'm not sure who can.
I agree with this completely. IF Paul can't get it turned around in 5 or 6 years, I'm all for dropping down to a lower tier conference.
That's a lot of pressure to put on a coach, but after 100 or so years of ineptitude, I think this is all I have in me. This is it.
I couldn't disagree more. There are thousands of legitimate D-1 coaches out there. To put all the marbles, so to speak, on a guy that outside of ISU didn't have a D-1 head coaching job before is a bit much IMO. So far, of course, he definitely seems to pass the eye test and seems to be making all the right moves, and hopefully he is indeed the guy...but if not, we go out and try to find 'the guy' again.
Regardless, moving down to a lower tier conference should never be in the picture. It just won't be the same.

Agree with your recruiting points here. We are already seeing the benefits of the new B12 with WBB recruiting and it will eventually become more apparent in FB as you suggest.
Ben, your theory may be right but forgot to tell us how to recruit better athletes. Maybe the president and JP should hold news conference stating they intend to compete in football. Any way some schollerships can be revoked from current players not performing and use them this year for D Line players?
Lower tier conference is for the BIRDS imo!!!!
BUT this is how it could happen (not saying it will though)....The Texas Horns set up their own TV network and then go to the major networks and see if they can get the "Notre Dame Deal"...
If the answer is YES then the Horns go INDEPENDENT LIKE NOTRE DAME, and there goes the remnants of the big 12 conference.
Its no secret in College Station TX that the Aggies want to join the SEC to get a better TV/ share of conference deal...
The only way I can see this happening is if the Horns go independent and I can tell you that DeLoss Dodds is taking a serious look at the financial impact of going notre dame on the big 12 conference...
Good Bye Texas Horns and the Texas Aggies??? Only Time will tell.

This is a fantastic idea. Let's rip away the collegiate funding from 18 to 22 year old students that have not shown enough improvement on the football field, really sends a great message.
