Brackens

Well if the team is horrible again next year you can scalp tickets for dirt cheap. Donate your money to the basketball program and get tickets. Thats guaranteed excitement every game. Even when we lose your still getting high paced basketball with tons of scoring and a fantastic atmosphere. Plus you can get clone cones.

:swoon:

Y'all do realize that basketball season started today, right? I mean, if you want to keep postin' in this thread about how horrible the football team is, be my guest, but, well, I figured as cyclone fans, you'd rather relish when we do well as opposed to just being here to complain.

But, I might be wrong.

The sky is not falling.

But the football offices are filled with employees that are qualified not to be there. That should not be in year five.

Please, no more of this "year five" crap, just because CPR has had some success in the past years and we have gone to some bowls, that doesn't mean that there shouldnt be any drop off or unforeseeable issues that combine to make a bad season. I am not ripping just on negative posters because there have been quite a few problems but people who are starting the "we need to fire everybody" threads need a serious reality check.
1. Rhoads is here, he will NOT be going anywhere for at least the next two seasons and it would take two more seasons like this for him to be canned. He is a solid coach and may be the best who would want to be here long term, so calling for his head isn't helping anyone.
2. Its been talked into the ground, but if you really believe that injuries and inexperience dont have anything to do with our struggles and this team has minimal talent, I question how much you really know about football. I know play calling is an issue too but there have been sent real flashes of talent from this group.
3. Back to play calling, Messingham isn't the answer for OC, he has helped us nail some recruits and I would like to bring him back as a position coach if he would accept a demotion but we need someone who can maximize the use of our weapons and put our playmakers in position to use the strengths in their game and be able to use momentum to put teams away when we have the chance. We have been right there in multiple games this year but we HAVE to capitalize when teams give us the chance.

I know a lot of you guys are hurting right now, hell, we are fanatics we ought to be, but I love this team and wouldn't trade it for another. I'm not here to say that this team will get x amount of wins in x years but it WILL be better in the next few years and I feel bad but understand if some posters choose not to reinvest in what CPR is building and miss out on seeing their success. Thanks for taking the time to read, better days are coming... *drop mic*

I'm with you and the rest the 54,900+. The vocal internet tough guys on here are embarrassing. Has this season been disappointing, yeah. A bowl bid was iffy if the stars aligned, the injuries to the offensive line have been ridiculous. Sports are as much about confidence and momentum as talent and coaching. I think Sam is potentially the best quarterback we've had at least since Sage, maybe better. Talent and enthusiasm can't overcome a thumb injury that physically prevents you from throwing, you can't run effectively with a ankle and groin injury. Yes I agree a change needs to be made on offense. I always thought Tom Herman was a competent offensive coordinator, he just never had a quarterback to fit his system. Boo birds on here turned on him very prematurely. Mess looks to be in over his head. I'm sure CPR sees this. Now is not the time to turn on CPR. Let him right the ship next year. If not then we can talk.

Right there with you - !!! Just hope he understands he can right the ship with a move or two.

I appreciate you passion but the issue I have with your post is that your overall opinion seems to be based on the thought that CPR has coached GOOD teams at ISU. The fact is that he hasn't had a good team in 5 years on the job.

If he had lead good teams in the past I would be more inclined to agree with you. Since he hasn't, I see him as a giant question mark right now with a trend in the wrong direction.

Agree, but even an up-and-comer would be an improvement over Mess. I think almost everyone would agree Mess was not an up-and-comer and not a proven OC. We hired the wait staff to replace a misfit chef.

That's a rather faulty assumption. We could very well hire another OC that sucks. And yes, he could be every bit as bad as this one--or worse. The opinion that simply changing will make us better is illogical.

So you're in favor of no changes then?

I'm very much in favor of a change but I also understand it won't automatically mean improvement, let alone the considerable improvement that is being claimed.

Any change would be an improvement over the disastrous playing calling and player development.

This thread needs to get back on topic! I believe we should be talking Jared Brackens.

So is he or is he not going to dress up in the fat woman suit for the basketball games this season?!? I didn't see him at today's game, which is fine against teams like unc-Wilmington but we are really going to need him out there for the big games.

I don't think the lovely pink lady came out until conference games started last year, but I may be wrong.

CPR hasn't had a good offense. Isu had a good defense last year. Everyone agrees a change is needed offensively.

I will echo comments State43 made about CPR. He has had two pretty good defenses at ISU in 2011 and 2012. He has proven he can coach and has proven he knows how to win games at this level. His offense has always been the weaker of the two units. He is a decent offensive unit away from winning 8 or 9 games in 2012, and I truly believe being 6-3 this year. Changing the coordinator will by no means guarantee an 8 or 9 win season, but it will be a step in the right direction. Next years season will be much better with fewer injuries (knock on wood), not to mention a more experienced group on both sides of the ball.

Uhhhhhh...yeah. Great review.

The whole point isn't to have one good unit. The point is to have a good TEAM.

First game after football season ends is Auburn on Dec. 2. Fully expect to see Brackens in the fat lady suit there. Make it happen!

25-35
12-28
3-14

If he "knows how to win games at this level" he has a funny way of showing it. I don't think the evidence supports your claim.

Oh, and all he needs is a good offense? So you mean basically half his team needs fixing now that the entire program is his? That's all?
