We are NOT a top 5 team. Part of that was Hoiberg hype. Part of that was Diallo. Part of that was Williams. We've also lost Custer and GT. Long, Cooke, and Ernst are physical uncertainties. I think we will be around 15th - about like last year. On the plus side, I think McKay will be even better. Replacing BDJ ,Hogue, Edozie, with Cooke, Burton, Ernst is a push.

We've lost Custer GT and Edozie?? What in the world are you talking about? They played zero meaningful minutes last year. Zero! Bottom line: we are replacing Hogue and BDJ with Burton Cooke and Noskowiak. The rest of our players should be improved.

We're not a top 5 team? Again...answer my question. Other than UNC KU Kentucky and Maryland take your pick of the litter. Any other team in the country. You name your team I'll go a friendly wager of $50 ISU has a better seed in the tournament. Take your pick!

So Monte, Georges, McKay, and Nader are not allowed to get better from last year?

Will get ripped but I think the preseason hype is a little much. Could certainly all fall into place for us, but my guess is we will be in that 10-15 range all year again with a good chance to make a run come tourney time.

If MT plays consistently to his ability and Naz makes it back at full strength, we could be better.

Still lots of unknowns. Depth down low and defense still concerning.

Will be a great year regardless though. Hoping they meet/exceed expectations and we aren't left discussing the what ifs.

I don't know if we're top 5 or not, but we should have a better team on paper. I'd take the new guys over the old guys, but even if you're right and it's a push, you have Niang, Morris, Long and McKay with one more year under their belt and all four should be much better, which will make the team, on paper, much better. That all goes away if Long isn't healthy enough to play though.

Y'all act like losing BDJ is a bad thing. He wasn't exactly a positive note for us last year...

Call me crazy but I like Nader better than I like Hogue.

Just depends on where they are playing. Houge was great as an undersized 4 two years ago, but trying ot play the 3 last year didn't really work. He should never have been on the floor with McKay at the same time.

Nader is more of a 3 in how he plays. His improvement is key to how high this team can go. If he improves to an all-Big12 caliber this year, this team is a whole new kind of scary good.

Decent player maybe, but massive locker room cancer.

From what I've heard after the season and seen on social media this is greatly overblown. He was used as a scapegoat towards to end of the year when in reality he was having little impact positive or negative to the team on and off the court.

What? Hogue did not play as an under-sized four in 13-14 any more than last year. Don't let the UConn game fool you. Both seasons there were times it was better to go small and not have Hogue on the wing, but last year his perimeter shooting was big, and both years he carried the load defending the wing.

Nader is not more of a 3. Besides lbs, he isn't more of anything, hence his limited and sporadic play. He is a small-ball 4 that thinks he is a good two guard. He will need to improve a lot to just reach good Big 12 starter level.

So part of the reason we were a top 5 team before Fred left was Darien Williams? Wasn't he a "physical uncertainty" like Long and Cooke are now? Long and Cooke are both supposed to be ready when the season rolls around. Heck, Hallice is already playing Cap City-- four months before our first regular season game.

Also, we're really not losing much. We lost Kane and Ejim before this and still won the Big 12 tournament. Edozie wasn't in the rotation last season. In the UAB game, the three players you mentioned combined for 28 minutes, 0-5 from the field, 0-3 on 3's, 3 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 steal, 1 block, 2 TO's, 3 fouls, and ZERO points. Man, how will we ever replace that?!?!?

Yes the addition of another great big man would be welcomed by every single team in America with open arms. That would improve every single team significantly. ISU is a preason top 5 team by every single preseason meaningful publisher and Vegas has them as top 5 odds as national champs. I guess I'm not sure what your definition of elite is. Would Cheick Diallo had made us that much better? Absolutely I agree. Are we not an elite team because we missed out on him? I'd disagree.

I don't consider us a top 5 team. Being wrong would be wonderful.

He couldn't even stop partying after cops did everything they could to try and keep this guy from getting into trouble. There's a difference between the media overblowing things and just being an idiot. BDJ acted like a kid when he was with the team and didn't mesh well with a lot of the players. Losing him is a good thing, in my opinion. He was pretty much useless once conference play started and that's why his minutes suffered dramatically.

I would put us solidly in the top 10-15, but 5 is a stretch considering we lost in the first round last year and there are several teams returning more than us IMO
