I would put us solidly in the top 10-15, but 5 is a stretch considering we lost in the first round last year and there are several teams returning more than us IMO
Perhaps, but there often is not a big difference between the #15 team and #30 imo.

It will be interesting to see how "universally" talented we are. Imo we have a little bit of a niche talent factor, guys being perceived better due to how well utilized they were, which could depreciate some with a new HC.

With regard to BDJ...it amazes me how some of the special snowflakes around here can argue about something that is in the past, won't affect anything positively, and is all hearsay anyway...with the fervor of something world changing.

How or why would we be worse next year then last year? People literally say that every year and it blows my mind.

Losing the Hogue of two years ago would be a blow, but we already experienced that last year because he just wasn't as good.

BDJ is addition by subtraction. He SHOULD have been a difference maker for the team, but he couldn't get his head on straight.

We lose Hogue, BDJ, Edozie, and Custer. We add Cooke and Burton, along with the development of everyone else returning.

We lost Fred, but we hired another young and upcoming coach who likes to run fast paced like we did. I also think our assistant coaches are an upgrade. Otz is a future HC, and Robinson is known for developing Bigs and improving D. Small is a journey man coach who's worked under several coaches and was a candidate to replace Prohm as HC at Murray State. All are good-great at recruiting.

Ok, even if you don't want to go with the conference play rumors, how about the fact that he got arrested after being warned multiple times?

As for the won't change anything, nothing we say on this message board will probably change anything ever. It is a forum to discuss opinion, and my opinion is that BDJ was a negative presence on the team, a distraction, and we will be better without him.

Clones will be a team that can beat just about anybody next year. Should be quite a year. Regardless of this recruit or of anybody leaving, including Fred.

Still unknown how good Burton and Cooke will be and Prohm still an unknown so I don't think it's far fetched to say they could be worse. Plus Long and Cooke recovering from hip surgery.
No interior depth.

How is Prohm an unknown? He's actually pretty well known.

All of these reasons seem logical. I'm trying to remain 'cautiously optimistiic' about next season. Main reason is depth. Sure the main 7/8 guys will get the majority of PT anyways, but foul trouble/injury/etc. can throw a wrench in that real fast. Using Maryland and KU only for comparison sake....they are much deeper to afford any adversity. Just wish we could have somehow picked up a JUCO big this offseason. Oh well.

Known in general? Yes. Although, not a known quantity with this team or against a BigXII schedule.

Good point. The competition of Big12 rosters, muchless the experienced coaches, will be a challenge one would think. Sure is going to be an interesting transition and hopefully fun/exciting.

Agree.
Well known in general? Sure, unless you are asking players like Morris. But we don't know how Fred's roster will fit with Prohm, particularly with him facing the Big 12 for the first time. There certainly could be a bit of a step back there, and that is no slight to Prohm. Normal coaching change risks. On the other hand we could find out some of our weaknesses were not completely due to personnel- maybe our defense and rebounding improves.

Looking more at what we have in the front court and maaan are we thin there. If McKay and Niang ever get in foul trouble, the team could be in for a long night. Ernst and Nader as the front court options behind them, not altogether comforting, although I'm not as down on Ernst as the average Joe is on this website

We're just as thin as last year. I think Burton can play Hogue's underized 4 role if needed and Edozie didn't play last year when McKay got eliglble

Man, they are having multiple orgasms on the Iowa boards that we signed this kid (and generally ignoring that we probably have 3 open scholarships and loads more then next yer). Even if we were to never sign a coveted recruit or transfer again, the general reaction says a lot about their jealous rage the past 5 years.

Those are the same message boards that people were Guaranteeing a win against ISU last year. Let them talk, until they beat us, they have no stance. #woodburystillblows

I doubt they are ignoring that, more like relishing. That fact is not exactly great news for the program, and although being desperate justifies such signings, it does not change how good of prospects you are signing.

Well from what I can read they are saying in unison "This is the only type of kid ISU will ever get now that FH is gone" which is pretty silly and much more attributed to the fact that it's late June and we do have an issue with lots of open scholarships.
