I, too, thought it hard to understand but I think they meant that he was inconsistent and didn't always play hard. May have tended to play to the level of the opposition.

I think you're right and that stuff is all fixable (if not, still out nothing).

Oh boy, that means the new coach landed a super-sleeper, super-stealth, athletic spider type.

People should be joyous.

Only because if Iowa were to signed this kid, your fan base would have made laughed at it. A few on here have admitted as much. But then you defend that "this is different" with a ton of excuses that again, if it were Iowa, you would have clowned (no pun intended, lower case "C") on those excuses. Because we have seen the same scenario regarding Iowa.

I would have been worried that he would eat up Woodbury's minutes, and that we'd no longer be entertained by Woodbury on basketball court.

Thanks for the info. I'm a little surprised Homan would start over a younger Brackins, but by the time he was a senior Homan was a really good Big 12 center, and down the stretch of the Big 12 schedule, I don't think any Big 12 center was playing any better than Homan. Not sure we've had a player develop any further from his freshman to his senior year.

Not surprised at all. Homan could beat the living daylights out of Brackins in a back alley (and under the rim). Not that Brackins isn't talented, but Homan was a bruiser down low (with skill). Last game of his career had something like 20 pts and 20 rebounds in the second round against eventual champ N. Carolina. I agree, he was playing as well as any center in the Big 12 down the stretch.

Had to look this up and it was 19 and 20 - impressive. http://scores.espn.go.com/ncb/boxscore?gameId=254000018

Probably played close to all 40 minutes, too. Not that I think we would have beaten that North Carolina team, but our absolute lack of a bench just got us run out of the gym in that game.

That and they had at least 5-6 NBA players from what I can remember

Why I still don't think they would have won. But we had a damned good starting five that year. Too bad our second off the bench was John Neal (though I loved the kid, he was pretty limited). Probably could have kept it within 10-15 instead of over 30. That was a damned good UNC team, though.

Who would've guessed at the time that it would be almost 7 years before ISU even played in another NCAA Tournament game? **Shudder**

If I'm remembering correctly (big if) it was close and we gave up like 15 straight points in the last two minutes of the first half.

They wore us out. I seem to remember it being fairly close until our guys just got exhausted out there from running up and down the court. It doesn't help that our offensive style played right into their hands.

This...I remember Morgan saying before the game that we were going to try and beat them at their own game, which I couldn't wrap my head around at all at the time and I still can't.

They were the most talented team in the country, and we had a zone in the half court that baffled a lot of good teams and would've slowed the game down.

Not saying we would've won, but keeping it a half court game would've given us a better shot than trying to speed up the game and beat the most talented team in the country at their own game.

I'm as excited for the development of this kid as anyone else on the roster. Maybe not his freshman year but later on in his career he can be a force down low. I heard he lives in the weight room. Would be amazing if he could get up to 250 or 260 by the time he graduates.

Homan is a basketball legend in Europe.

I love it when basketball players put in the time and effort in the weight room.

It can be a great advantage for a big man when you can be physically developed. All you have to do if you have the height and build is to concentrate on rebounding and defending. Points will find you in a wide open system like ours by finishing near the rim.
