"Preliminary Action: The Director of Athletics, at his or her discretion, may take preliminary action to temporarily suspend a student-athlete from participation in practice or competition and/or access to athletic department services when the Director of Athletics has verified that felony criminal charges have been filed against a student-athlete or when there is specific and credible information (e.g., arrest records, statements of law enforcement officers, University records, third-party or witness statements, or acknowledgement by the student-athlete) for reasonably believing that a student-athlete may have committed Category I misconduct." (University of Iowa Official Athletic Site Athletics)
This is from the Univ of Iowa code. Something similar probably applies to ISU. Fred doesn't have to worry about getting sued if Bubu is found not guilty. Same thing happens at jobs- if the employee is charged with a violent crime, then you can put him on administrative leave until the case has ended. It's not a violation of innocent-until-guilty. It's just about protecting your employees.
he will be in jail. ha. don't think he can play from jail.

They can't do much with him until the courts are done. If they kick him off and he somehow comes up innocent, he could sue the university.
No, he couldn't. Coaches can remove players from the team or revoke
scholarships each year with nearly complete autonomy.
Neither Fred nor the team are going to turn their backs on him in this situation. They feel he has a strong case...they will let the court process play out. Can't believe all the posters ready to convict someone with no knowledge of the situation.

No I agree.
I was just pointing out that if he wanted to he could give him the boot.
But I'm guessing based on past behavior and reputation they are going to protect him a bit and let everything play out.
However, the university would not be liable for anything if Fred decided to cut bait today.
