immediate playing time for transfers is a positive...

no?

Sure, for grad transfers. But that's not sustainable unless you have talent to develop under them. I suppose you could hope to get a few guys to keep the ship afloat with the hope the freshman stick around and continue to improve. But two years of recruiting with literally nothing to show for it is a killer.

At the beginning of the year I would have had the reaction of "I wish him the best.. He'll be a great roll player elsewhere". With how he finished the season I really feel like we are missing out on a player that could have given some great minutes the next 3 years. Bummer

Somehow that's even worse.
Yeah it is worse. So from that response, I would assume Grill never really showed his discomfort throughout the year. He might've talked to Prohm about it, but maybe he didn't. Either way something seems completely off.

Here is a guy that has photos from his childhood in ISU gear, looked to be an incredibly hard worker, got pretty darn good playing time for a freshman throughout the year, looked like he was starting to figure it out a little bit, anddddd he's gone. I'm as confused as everyone else on here.

Four high school recruits in the 2019 class... two left before the season even started... another left out of no where after... and Tre Jackson remains.

Woof.

Grill Transferring is a surprise and I wish him the best.

Before we freak out though I am not sure Caleb was even a year away from being a major contributor at ISU. At that point he'd be recruited over (which many demanding JuCo/transfers beeing added would have happened). This year Grill was forced into playing due to the injuries and other freshman transferring out not due to him being ready for B12 play. He may feel more comfortable playing at the non-P6 level that he originally committed to. There are many reasons Grill may feel ISU isn't a fit for him and he has the right to try some place better for him.

I am not giving Prohm a pass though, losing 3 out of 4 recruits in a Freshman class is a huge problem. From identifying, prioritizing and development of the players it is his job to have them ready to fill set role and it didn't happen. I can't believe Jamie will take this attrition lightly and will be using this upcoming season to decide on staying the course or going a new direction. This off season will be the most important of the Prohm tenure, if he doesn't replace this class it will be ending shortly.

Literally the only thing I hope for is to sign someone in his spot who is sophomore / junior who we can get two years out of, but they'd have to be immediately eligible.

Like the optimism but considering the current state of things, this is kind of like hoping for all of those 6'10 40% three point shooters that a poster was yearning for a few years ago.
