We have to change our offensive scheme to beat an FCS team? And no, we did not need to change our scheme to beat Iowa either. Just taking care of the ball and executing better on special teams would have done it.

And it goes without saying that yes we should be adjusting our game plan to try to win every game. This is big time football .

Then WE SHOULD HAVE BEATEN IOWA BY TEN POINTS ...INSTEAD OF THE OTHER WAY AROUND....WE RUN THE SAME OFFENSE AS IOWA ONLY NOT NEARLY AS GOOD AS IOWA......

THE PROBLEM IS IOWA IS BETTER WITH THAT OFFENSE THAN WE ARE....ACCORDING TO CW

Iowa had fewer yards in total offense and fewer first downs.

Yeah I'm not getting the 'change the scheme this week' deal.

Other teams beat Iowa without a constant two minute drill, and ISU can spread teams out with 3 TE sets IF the players are utilized correctly. Maybe pick up the tempo if you get the defense scrambling but that's pretty basic football. Keep the rhythm.

Plain and simple Iowa brought it and ISU didn't join in.

Whomever doesn't turn it over is better at vanilla offense.

We got a pretty crystal clear answer on that one.

And vanilla offense doesn't mean it's predictable. It's all about how plays/situations compliment one another.

Are you kidding me? I could name many coaches who, after tough losses, act like 10 year olds.

Yeah and I have seen thousands where the coach basically says the exact same thing. He don't deserve props for answering questions. He is paid millions to do that. I don't hold it against him but giving him praise is pretty dumb. We lost, he gave answers.

This is good to hear and I am glad we are trying to employ new methods but this was as uninspired as I have seen an early season game. We can't keep this type of L going against Iowa.

If you wanna beat UNI and Uof I ...you would have to change the offense to a Spread Offense ....and Coach Campbell won't do that for two non conf games!!
SPREAD'EM OUT AND BEAT JUST LIKE CPR DID.....BOTH AT HOME AND ON THE ROAD

This seems like an oversimplication of what it would take to win. This was a winnable game with the current offense, the loss being more attributable to offensive details, special teams and turnovers.

Way up there
I don't think taking the blame is really that big a deal, he has to do that. At the end of the day, all of this is his responsibility, its his program.

I really have to wonder what CMC thinks about the 2nd half offense though, speaking with Holly Rowe, he sounded like he wanted to open things up quite a bit, not sure whomever was calling plays got the memo.

I was really impressed with Campbell's post-game press conference. The first thing he did was compliment Iowa and credit them for their victory.

The second thing he did was take full responsibility for our team's lack of execution. He said numerous times it's all on him and him alone.

Then Campbell very patiently and respectfully answered every question which had to be tough.

I couldn't help contrasting that with other coaches' press conferences after disappointing losses (e.g., Fran McCaffrey). You really see a person's true colors when they're dealing with adversity.

It's during these difficult times that I feel more than ever how fortunate we are to have a coach like Campbell who leads by example.
Thank you Jamie

He didn't just answer questions. He began by giving complete credit to his rival after a very difficult game, and then he took full responsibility for the lack of execution by his players. Go ahead and call me dumb. Guess I'm not like you - I don't know "thousands" of coaches who display the same degree of class after tough losses.

If the offense just eliminated the TO's ISU wins, simple as that. Iowa's total offense through 2 games ranks damn near last in the nation.

I find things like these silly. First of all turnovers are one of the most important parts of the game. Keeping the ball is a major facet of a successful game. So to say "if we just eliminated the TOs we'd win" is silly. It's a big part of the game you can't just discount.

Second, I guess we were watching different games. ESPN's "win probability" had Iowa at 65% to win prior to Breece's fumble. I guess I just hadn't see much from our offense that lead me to believe we were going to score enough to win.

The turnovers obviously didn't help, but I guess I have alot less faith than you do that if we held onto the ball we'd have won, and I find the whole exercise pointless anyway.

He and Manning had some heart to hearts. I don't know if it's been discussed elsewhere, but on our TD drive to end the 1H, we had to take a timeout after the long gain to Wilson. Campbell was irate, and you could read his lips that he was saying they need to have tempo there, playing into their hands and what they expect.

The clock management and inability to get plays in at key times has been a weakness of this staff, and seems like it may be falling on OC's shoulders.

Hope to see it cleaned up and adjustments made.
The bolded is a really, really, big problem. Campbell was right. How does that necessity elude the OC?
