some people are worked up because supposed cyclone fans hijacked the thread raving about Iowa and that we're apparently out matched at every position exept for maybe clyburn. Sorry but that irks me the wrong way. Fred doing a great job and has isu in a better position especially for this year than Iowa. I don't need to read a thread about this season only to see posters talking up Iowa and downplaying Iowa state.

Strawman arguments are fun.

As far as hawk comparisons are concerned... Our starters are better, our bench is better, and our future recruits are way better. Watching basketball at carver is as exciting as watching suitcases rotate around a baggage claim. Hilton is top ten atmosphere. The days of us even comparing ourselves low end big 10 teams are coming to a close. Michigan State comparisons would make a lot more sense.

Yes we are gonna make a big run this year. We could get upset by some lousy teams like the hawks along the way but I doubt it.

I think its closer than you think, remember Percy was a pretty prolific scorer with the minutes he got last year, give him double those minutes this year, he led our team in FG%. To say its not even close makes me question your fandom.
Here's a deal Pete, if Percy makes a shot with his right hand this year, we'll concede he's better than White.

Percy for a frosh last year was great with his back to the basket, he wasnt intimidated by big time players either. Could his defense improve, well since it was a topic of conversation last year, I bet the kid worked hard at it in the off-season. I think Percy is smooth around the basket, like Vic Alexander smooth. I expect he will be a nice player for us this year.

Melvin is a garbage man who consistently hustles, he can effectively guard 3 positions, rebounds and even though his hands are made of stone, hopefully they have softened up some over the off-season, I like his game a lot.

Booker is an enigma if you ask me, always seems to be in Coach Fred's doghouse. He is athletic and seems to play hard when on the floor. There is not a guy on this team that I would rather take with me into a back alley street-fight than Booker thats for sure.

The day 1 starting line-up could be interesting. KL at 1, Chris Babb at 2-3, Will at the 2-3, Melvin at 4, Booker or Gibson at the 5, depending on who is practicing better. With our young kids they will have the luxury of not being pushed too fast if needed, obviously if there is a stud in the mix (Im looking at you Georges) then he will get an opportunity to play. At least we arent pinning our hopes on a bunch of young underclassmen. Its good to have proven players already in place. Im excited. also with our class this year and the guys we are deeply in on for next we are doing just fine for the future as well.

Iowa is a year away from being good...if ever. They don't deserve any respect right now IMO. NIT if lucky.

McCaffery is probably a little overrated at this point. His Siena teams had a lot of talent and they ran some nice sets but I don't think he is that much of a miracle worker. MAAC teams sometimes find themselves with a lot of talent...see Fairfield and Iona last year for example.

Gatens was nothing special and still had to carry the team last year instead of McCaffereys younger guys taking over.

That team blows I made a huge mistake of parlaying them seriously big against Clemson with Indiana one night last year and it bit me badly. Ohio St who might be a little overrated themselves but they will smack Frannys kids around and run them out of the building. They'll lose to ISU by DD at home. Book that.

Now the B1G was good last year but...OSU lost a ton, NW lost Shurna, Michigan are overrated, Wiscy lost JT, Purdue lost Hummel, Illinois got rid of the coach who won a national championship for no reason, MSU doesn't have the talent they did in the past, Minny is always an enigma despite the talent, and Indiana is hyped up since none of their talent has graduated/left early but the league is not that good. Iowa might be competitive enough in that league their fans think they are relevant but that team is not for real. And I think I am taking a Swopshire led Northwestern team to get their first bid ever over Iowa going dancing.

Just me though but I think most of the MVC would beat them on a neutral court.

This.

There isn't one starter I'd take from Iowa's team over ours. They'll be crappy to mediocre once again. And we will drill them in Iowa City.

We're more talented, more athletic, stronger, and have better depth. Some of this Lucious vs Gessel or Gibson vs White stuff is hilarious. Cyclone fans, Iowa won't be anything for us to worry about.

Well technically he uses both hands for many of his shots. Not all of them are left handed hook shots. So the first time he dunks with both hands that counts right?

Too many uncertains at this point. Gotta see it all together on the court and go from there. We really will have no idea until we face Cinci
