Cats vs Small Dogs

I have two male cats, two female small dogs. The cats are great. One dog is a Llasa Apso, she is good, but mean as hell if she don't know you, the other is a Pikachu, which is a Pekingese- Shi-tzu mix. She is cute, but I think she is brainless. My Basset Hound died not too long ago, she was the best dog ever. So if I had a gun to my head, I would choose my Basset Hound.

Cats poop all over the house and I don't trust any animal in my house that is always sneaking around behind me.

The yippie dogs are the ones you see being carried around in purses by pretentious idiots. We have a 23-25 lb terrier mix and is the perfect dog. He would manhandle the Paris Hilton dogs.

Cats are great companions. They can be every bit as affectionate as dogs. They just aren't obediant.

One poops inside and you have to pick it up, the other poops outside and you probably have to pick it up. So I guess which one is better depends on your feelings on where you want the poop.

Seriously, they're pricy but WORTH IT. It took a little time to get a couple of them used to it, but all six of them use the same one. The poop goes in sealed drawer underneath with a charcoal filter. We empty the drawer once a day and add more litter as needed. We've found that we're going through less litter too.

I had a applehead chihuahua that was awesome. Huge attitude, very little barking. He's dead now.

As a kid we had miniature schnauzers that were amazing. None of them were "yippy", and all were very smart.

Had a Dalmation for 13 years. It was a really cool dog, but the shedding was insane. She's been dead for 15 years and I swear I still find her hairs from time to time. They're like little velcro hooks that seemed to attach to anything she brushed up against.

I had a cat for about a month and rehomed it. Couldn't stand the stupid thing. It was cute for about a week. But just one week. Never again.

We rescued a miniature pinscher with diabetes who has now gone blind. She has a big, bossy attitude. We're not sure why we like her. Or if we like her.

We had a dachshund great dog. Been bit by 3 small dogs. 1 Chihuahua and 2 Jack Russels. Had golden retrievers now for 25+ years. We have had three cats over the years. The cat will pee on your rugs, shoes, bed, suitcase, $150 hiking boots. Two deceased cats never stopped ruining stuff. This last one we put on kitty downers now he doesn't pee he just ***** on the bed if the dog ever jumps on it. Go big dog

I'll have to check if my sister has one of these. 4 cats. Two were hers then she took mom's two.

Yeah...we didn't plan it that way. People dump cats out here, and we're soft-hearted (or soft headed; I'm not sure which).

Two quotes come to mind, "man's best friend" and "the only bad thing about a good dog is that they don't live long enough". The only quote I can recall about a cat is, "you never own a cat". Dogs are loyal, obedient and have unconditional love for their master and family. Cats on the other hand are devious and untrustworthy. I swerve for dogs not so much for cats.

I love both dogs & cats; we had a standard dachshund when I was a kid, and as an adult I had a half-dozen spaniels (brittanys & springers) over the course of about 25 years. Where we live now, a dog would have had to be crated all day while we were at work...not fair to the dog. And now that we're retired, well...it's a lot easier to take off for a few days and leave cats behind than to do the same with a dog or dogs...all we do is call the neighbor girl & she comes down & feeds, waters, & dumps litter daily while we're gone.

With that said, I know from experience that cats can be as loving as dogs. A big part of it is how well they are socialized when they are kittens. Maybe some of you have had a bad experience or two with cats. Have you honestly never had bad experiences with dogs? Blanket descriptions of "cats evil - dogs perfect" are lazy.

For every mean cat you can list I can list a person mauled or killed by a dog. How many deaths by house cat are on the books?

As someone who has two yipper things (dogs woof, not yip) next door that literally go outside and yip at the air for 30 minutes non-stop who's owners are oblivious even though the cops have been called on them because of it and still do nothing to stop it, I'll take cats any day.

I don't know that keeping a dog in a crate is all that unfair, especially after working from home pretty much since the pandemic started. Dogs are possibly lazier than cats. My older dog, who we never crate, sits in the same spot all day and does not move. Occasionally I check on him just to make sure he isn't dead. My other dog is almost 2 years old, so we were crating him when we went to work before the pandemic started. Even though he doesn't have to, he spends basically his whole day in his crate with the door open. The young pup is maturing and pretty well behaved now, so I'm not sure we will crate him when I go back to the office, but I wouldn't feel the least bit bad about it if we did since he spends the whole day in there anyways.
