Ya I agree he is borderline great at passing in college, but some passes are wild. So he is just going to play PG in the league? I dont think he is that great of a defender either.

I'm very skeptical about how this will work out but obviously wish the guy good luck. He has overcome a lot.

He won't be leaving much money on the table at all. This isn't the NFL, there aren't huge differences between any first round deals. You make your money off your second and third contract, not your first.
We must admire Hoiberg on this decision as well. He most-likely supported Royce and wasn't selfish. I know if I were in his shoes, I'd be begging Royce to come back (because I'm selfish in this situation.) But maybe Fred wants to show he can produce one and done players for future recruits
Kind of true. A lot of 2nd rounders, especially from Europe, and lottery picks (half the time) are drafted off of potential. Royce just has to show that he can knock down a jumper in his workouts and IMO, we've all seen it in practice videos. He's capable of it.
I bet he'd like it being back in Minnesota. It'd be perfect for me too cause they'd become my favorite team and I'd definitely go see him play.
Nope, I believe one more year of college ball to improve this, defense and free throw shooting would really boost his stock for next year's draft.

I understand the sarcasm, but I don't think Royce was going to come back whether he was projected first round or late second round. If he knew he had a shot, I think he was gone.

Develop it in the NBA. Really smart choice by RW. This makes Fred look REALLY good. Taking players and putting them in the NBA.
I've heard this argument repeatedly and everyone seems to be missing the point. The goal is not to improve his jump shot just for the sake of him being a better shooter. Yes, he can improve his shot at college as well as in the pros.
But, the reason to stay in college to improve his shot would be to improve his shot SO HE'S DRAFTED HIGHER. If his stock is as high as it is likely to be, then he should definitely go pro.
In 2 years Hoiberg has produced an NBA player, a D-League player, and a European League player. And I don't think Vanderbeken or Garrett would still be playing if McDermott were still here. And Royce never would've come here.
