Kid definitly has the talent. I think he's going to crack the rotation this year.

Why are people still talking SDW? He doesnt have the talent, hes not cracking any rotation. He couldnt play in front of Monte or Thomas who didnt have the luxury of sitting out a year to "put on weight" or whatever excuse people came up with. Stop.

I won't give up on SDW until he gives up on us. He has worked hard, shown a good team spirit, and performed well in CCL. I expect Fred to give him opportunities commensurate with his performance in practice and in game situations. My hope is that his work will pay off and his game will come together at Hilton, much like it did for Naz Long last year. There is nothing like having a little success at Hilton to fuel more success at Hilton.

Yeah i hope the kid develops and does well.......IMO people are just being wildly unrealistic and dishonest to themselves. 20 points in a game.....chewing my foot off.....still stands.

If SDW didn't have the talent/ potential, I assume the staff would've encouraged him to transfer this year - a la Percy. The fact that he's still here indicates the staff likes him/ wants to see another year's worth of development.

I'm in the same boat as you, especially after I kind of wrote Naz Long off as probably not being much of a contributor going forward after his first year. He then went and proved me completely wrong. If anything, both Naz and SDW have been nothing but upstanding young men and teammates so far, so that alone makes them winners in my book and means I'll always be rooting for their success. I also truly believe SDW has the talent within himself to succeed, but lacks some confidence/strength/experience to fully access it quite yet. Lets also not forget the good news of this situation which is that either way, we don't need SDW to contribute right now to be successful, so if he still struggles this next year, that is okay, but if he succeeds and does crack the rotation, I consider that just gravy to an already gravy plentiful team.

What were your opinions on Naz after his freshman year?

I have confidence in SDW. I thought he just needed a little more weight on his frame in the last two years.

Guys, remember the backups that we had under McD. We are light years ahead.

Not good, but he got a huge pass for no playing time given that he had some great talent in front of him where there was simply no way he was going to get time.

Last year....aside from Kane (Who honestly...nobody had any idea he was going to be that good)....but aside from him, there was a major opportunity to play. And yeah i hope the kid ends up being Dedric Willoughby/.....but cmon...he didnt beat out two true freshman and Naz who had limited minutes.

So THIS year we have BJD, Naz, Monte, Thomas, and Custer. (And next year Hallice) Im all ears how hes beating those guys out for time. Thats all im saying.

Yeah, we've never seen a player go from not playing in their freshman season to being a vital part of the team in their sophomore season (NAZ LONG)...

What exactly have we seen from all parties involved that makes you so sure he'll never crack the line-up?

I see both sides of the argument here. I think SDW has the potential to be a good player, and we have seen at least in the CCL he is capable of scoring. However, he is going to have to jump someone to get time, and I'm not sure who that someone is.

SDW plays the 2/3 position. Others that can be slotted in that position are BDJ, Nader, Long, MT. Custer is more of a PG but you could see him slide to the 2. Hogue is more of a 4 but we've seen him play some 3. BDJ is going to get 30 minutes a game, and Nader and Long should both get at least 15-20. Coach showed last season a preference for MT, and given this year's lineup Matt will probably only see 10-15 per game. I hope SDW gets a chance, I'm just struggling to see where his minutes come from.

Another way to think about it is he struggled to see the floor last year. We lost Kane (1/2 guard) and Ejim (4/5). We've added Custer (1/2) BDJ (2/3) Nader (2/3) and we've heard reports Naz continues to make strides. If anything, there will be less minutes at the positions SDW plays than last year, and last year he couldn't find minutes.

Bewilder: I dont think there is anything wrong asking someone who posted something wild to back their opinion.

Rholt: I personally think its unrealistic....but with BJD, Naz, Monte, Thomas, and Custer...who is he playing in front of given we are very forward and post player heavy this coming season?

From past observations, MM is pretty much a lock. BJD would be second as a lock but he must play team ball. Then it is a dogfight for the rest.
