Are you saying that last year SDW WASNT somehow far behind Thomas and MOnte? I mean he got basically no minutes while they got all of them.....id say thats far behind?

He got almost exactly the same number of minutes as Naz did his freshman year.

And there was one incoming transfer ahead of Naz going into his sophomore year. There is one incoming transfer plus one returning junior and one returning sophomore ahead of SDW this year.

Actually forgot that Kane started the year at point with Matt starting. So really there was no established two guard ahead of Naz heading into last year, not the case for SDW this year, he's got three guys who are already ahead of him.

So the CCL is tomorrow night (Friday) at 5:30pm, I have a rehearsal dinner at 7 in dsm, think I can make it to watch the CCL before hand? Or is it not worth the time if I'm only there around an hour?

You'd see one whole game. Hogue and Dorsey-Walker playing.

with matt Thomas and nader suspended a few games. I could see SDW playing well enough early on with the extra minutes to be given a chance to play more. its not like matt Thomas was dominating last year it isn't that crazy to think SDW beats out MT for minutes..

At this point I don't think we've seen enough of SDW to KNOW that he doesn't have the talent. Minutes this year might not work out because of where he ends up in the pecking order but that still doesn't mean he's a wash out. He may end up contributing as an upperclassmen.

No I'd say you were far behind Thomas and Monte in the rotation. He was the next in line behind them to get their minutes.

No one is arguing that he wasn't behind them. Using their difference in minutes to claim there was a huge difference (far behind) is silly. The next guy in line on the bench normally gets less minutes whether he's just behind or far behind.

If Rohach gets the start and plays the whole first game is Sam suddenly far behind?

Your obsession with talking this guy down is pretty disturbing. Did he hang out with your girl and afterwards she told you that you were far behind?

Whether he plays or not he seems like a great kid and a great cyclone.

No. It's unacceptable to keep a guy around who doesn't contribute significantly until his junior/senior years. Mattyice knows what he's talking about, again.

It is an hour more than I will see. I'm jealous.

P.S. The nerve of somebody scheduling their wedding in June. Don't they know it is CCL season?

Considering i was in college when he was born.....no. hah. Uhhhhhhgain.....i hope the kid IS great, i hope he does well, im glad hes here (despite Ribsnwhiskeys claims...i dont wish him gone)...i just dont subscribe to this notion that hes in any rotation, or will see playing time.

And yes...i would say that he basically never rotated in even though Thomas really struggled at times...is pretty telling. Being close to me would be him getting spotty minutes in conference games, etc...just didnt happen.

Well the next guy who doesn't contribute as a freshman or sophomore than steps into a larger role as an upperclassmen will be the first under Fred.

While this is true, not sure its a fair argument. Given the short time he's been here, and the less talented players he had to start with.

I would actually say Naz falls into this category. SDW & Naz came in together, but SDW is still a class behind. Bottom line, time will tell.

I just don't see his role increasing much more than last year. For this year or next. Just so much ahead of him and Fred likely will not go deeper on the guard side of things. Can he surprise me? Yes, but I just don't see him getting a lot more compared to last year.

Sherron knows where he's at. He needs to out-work everyone if he thinks he's going to take minutes from the laundry list of depth we have now. One real problem for Sherron is Halice joining the team. I'm sorry guys but I would take Halice over Naz, Custer, and Sherron just based on what I saw from him last year. Kids a stud. I hope Sherron the best, but if the trend continues, I don't see any shortage of awesome players in the near future.

I will say this. Fred threw him on the floor more than he needed to, and sometimes in situations that surprised me. Fred rewards people who practice hard, so even though many people like to downplay Sherron's potential for his lack of minutes, I actually see it as an indication that Fred is trying to reward someone who should probably be getting more minutes.

Managed to make it to CCL tonight and caught the second half of the first game, all of game 2, and the first half of game 3.

A couple of observations (bear in mind I wasn't keeping track of scores or anything so it's just based off of memory)

1. SDW and Kourtlin Jackson were pretty solid tonight. Jackson had some nice drives towards the basketball and picked up some +1s.

2. Game 2 was ridiculously fun. It actually ended up tied at the end and went into overtime. Apparently no one running the game knew how much time to put back on the clock for overtime. It was originally set to 5:00 until the refs asked the crowd what it was supposed to be and it was then set to 2:00.

3. Niang definitely looks a little quicker and his spin moves are even faster. And he talks trash....constantly. Love that guy. He and Nader were going at it all game and it was funny when they were getting ready for the jumpball at overtime how they kept poking each other back and forth to the crowds amusement.

4. Clayton Custer. Wow. Just wow. Fast as hell and was making EVERY shot tonight. Was just on fire. It was fun watching him and the kid from Grinnell go at it.

5. Edozie was having a pretty solid game from the first half that I saw. He matched up against McKay often. McKay is just unreal. Can't wait to see what he'll do this season.

I really enjoy these games because it lets the guys have fun and enjoy playing against each other. You really get a sense of the comradery they have for one another. During the second game, watching Naz and McKay's reactions from the sideline was pretty funny.

If you can get a chance to make it to any of the games, I highly recommend it. It helps fill the horrible wait until this November.
