I got there and saw all of game 2 and the first half of game 3.

Georges was quick but it looked like he struggled a bit with his cardio but that is to be expected. Looks more lean now. A true competitor, he and Nader were going at it all game long.

Nader is big and physical. Couldn't get to the rack too consistently in the half court but he'll be awesome in Fred's system.

Custer was making practically everything he put up. Could definitely get his own shot whenever he wanted to. Took it to the rack and was very smooth with the fade away and quick pull up J. Got open often, was destroying Jack Taylor.

Jameel McKay needs to hit the weights, but he's definitely going to be good. A freak at rebounding. Wasn't terribly strong with the ball in the post but that will develop with the strength.

Naz looked like he maybe bulked up a little. Struggled some with the shot tonight.

Cooke looked good. Smooth with the dribble, easily created his own shots and got to the rack often.

Excited about the future of the program. Saw Georges and Naz going through the Chik-Fil-A drive up at about 6:15, kinda funny. Not sure if Georges was getting anything but he was playing a half hour later.

I don't agree about Georges and his conditioning. He could play all 40 minutes if need be. He as definitely in better shape, from a stamina stand point, than Nader. Dude had 55 points.

I know when I put up 55, I'm usually pretty damn tired. :jimlad:

It would take me ten games to get to 55 points, and that's assuming they forget to guard me.

I still think SDW has a very good chance of being a big time player some day. People on this site are always so excited about the new talent that they tend to overlook guys working very hard to find their way into the line up. When they dont see them in the line up right away then they assume that player must be horrible.

Ive said it before and I will say it again SDW is a great player, but he also knew his role last year. He came in to spell good players at the end of a half
Deandre (all american),
monte (amazing passing and good D),
thomas (best shooter in his class),
Naz (good shooter with a little more game experience)

SDW played well in his blowout games even with no-pass bluford generally taking all the shots. In big games SDW knew his role which was basically take care of the ball, pass to Kane/Niang/Ejim, and play D. Basically do exactly what Naz did his freshman year.

I'm hearing lots about how Niang is getting above the rim and making quicker moves. However, is he doing much physical banging on defense or as part of his offensive moves? I know CCL doesn't have very physical play, but I was wondering if he was making shots following contact?

Georges is still Georges on offense. Finishes through contact, etc. no issues.

He is better on D because he is a little quicker so he can guard further out on the floor. For perspective he held McKay to only one dunk when they played opening night and about 14 rebounds. Considering what he has done the next two games that was a heck of an effort.

The game tonight was very physical. Lots of contact between Nader and Georges in the paint. Both guys have a lot of pride so they were giving more than the usual summer league effort on D (Georges brings that out in guys).

Thanks for the report. Great to hear about Niang's physicality.

Man, it would have been fun to have been there tonight. Anybody have any video to post? Please, please.

It's a summer league so take everything I say into perspective,

Nader and Niang are going after each other hard. So those 55 points mostly came on Nader's defense which isn't your typical CCL defense. Makes it just that much more impressive. Nader was okay out there.

I noticed McKay getting a lot of boards. He was the tallest guy out there except for Edozie who is basically his height. McKay was everywhere and if it weren't for Edozie, McKay may have dunked all night.

Cooke was okay from beyond the arc. He shot a lot of them.

Custer was on fire. No one could guard him. He made Jack Taylor look like the DIII guard he is. Held him to 9 points. Then they put Kourtlin on him and Custer just ran circles around him. Kourtlin gives me the impression he could be on scholarship somewhere else. He might play for us someday.

Naz had an off night for him. A lot of showmanship between him and McKay.

Hogue was a monster when he wanted to be but the effort wasn't there in the second half (which isn't a big deal, please don't get me wrong, it's a summer league). Looks much better from 3.

Still a no show for Matt. Wonder if he'll show.

I'm assuming Hoiberg didnt like it too much.. Otherwise i would assume Bluford would still be here

Um, wut? This is not a serious post, right?

Gonna have to clear my schedule for Jameel McKay's Cyclone debut

Fred said at one point last season they really wanted to get SDW going, he as playing great and showing a lot in practice. After a few games of giving him a chance on the floor, he kind of struggled and Fred ended the trial run with putting him into games. So SDW still has to prove he can make some happen in a D-1 game. The good news is he was only a redshirt freshmen last year.

Kinda sorta.. If Bluford shooting the ball most every time he touched worked well, Fred would have played him more. And Bluford never would have left.

Yes, if he was better he may not have transferred somewhere else in search of playing time. You are correct.
