I think that is why so many ISU fans hate to see Royce move on to the next chapter in his life. The guy is so wise beyond his years, it is just amazing. So polished and humble too. I really think he is going to represent our university well in the future, both on and off the court.

Best of luck RW. Thanks for making ISU Basketball matter again.

I didn't think I could admire and respect Royce more for what he's done with his 2nd chance, but after reading that interview, I do. Just a great interview to learn more about this intelligent and unique man, and as a bonus he's made me feel a lot better about Cyclone basketball without him. And I will have a new favorite NBA team next year.

Fun read. I keep coming away more and more impressed with Royce. What I wouldn't give to have had him in Iowa City. It would have been a nice change of pace, both on and off the floor.

I supporty Royce's decision as much as I'd love to see this team next year with him. But my biggest regret is that he can't get the send-off like we give departing seniors. As loud as the crowd was for Scotty, can you imagine what it would sound like for Royce?

Just got a chance to read it this morning. I know it's a little ridiculous to get gushy over a college kid playing basketball, but what a special guy. It would have been nice to keep him here longer, but we were pretty damn lucky to be able to call him ours for as long as we did.

Royce will not be soon forgotten by Cyclone Nation. Truly an amazing representative of himself and Iowa State. He's going to do big things, both on and off the court over the years. Very proud that he has that Iowa State label. Good luck brother!

As much as Royce loves ISU he knows that it is time to go. Fred knew it as well. Royce is 21 and just had a great stint in the NCAA's and flashed his tremendous potential after a great season. Staying one more year was not going to move Royce up a whole lot in the eyes of the NBA. Time to strike while the iron is hot. Royce will be drafted in the NBA first round and get guaranteed money. Fred knows this from his contacts in the NBA.

IMO, it is refreshing to see people like Royce and Fred have such a great relationship that they can be honest and open about the future and what should be done in consideration of the best interests of the player. Royce will be a great ambassador in the NBA for ISU. And the resulting positive publicity will be a benefit to ISU and our program.

The Royce White Story and the resurrection of a career and future basketball career is quite remarkable. Our basketball program is in great hands with the Mayor.

I'm sure he'll get a standing ovation when he comes back to visit next year.

"It hurts to an extent that I have to leave and the fans are disappointed in that way but hopefully I can make an impact on the world so that they will be proud again one day."

The last thing he should be thinking is that he needs to make the Cyclone Nation "proud again one day". Glad to see that Royce isn't taking anything for granted but the Cyclone Nation is proud of him and will continue to be proud of him. That isn't something that will go away. Once a Cyclone always a Cyclone.

Re: My Take on the CF Exclusive w/ Royce

If this gets out to the GMS around the league, Royce will drop to 2nd round, and here's why. There is one quote that moved him from a potential lottery pick in my mind to a lock for the 2nd round.

"As far as basketball goes, I am not looking forward to it because I am insecure about you know, where I am but that is just the reality of it. But I have courage and whatever happens in that realm is not what’s most important."

Chris could have done Royce a huge favor by just leaving this part out. And Royce, you should have never said that stuff. This is like a job interview.

Employer: So, tell why you think you would be successful within our company?
Royce: Well my track record speaks for itself but I'm not really sure how I will fit in with your company. I am really not looking forward to a transition of this magnitude, I am not sure I am ready.

Employer: Okay. How important is success to you?
Royce: Well I have the courage to succeed, but success within your company is ultimately not the most important thing in life. Although I do want to succeed, you have to understand that I have goals outside of this company.

Employer: Alright Royce. We will likely be headed other directions with this position but we thank you for your time and we really appreciate your honesty.

My point is no matter how deep you feel about things, this is a spot where you must sell yourself and check your tongue. Say things you may not always believe. Tell them what they want to hear. Who will give someone guaranteed money, when that person isn't sure if they will succeed, and that person doesn't ultimately care if they succeed. That is the worst combination for a potential job candidate.

If it weren't maybe for his flying anxiety I sometimes wonder if Royce wouldn't rather go play ball in Europe or something for a couple years than play in the NBA. Seems like an intellectual guy like him would enjoy the adventure and seeing the world aspect of that more than the grind that the NBA seems to be.

Who the hell knows though. Royce is always going be a hard to read mixture of sincere and enigmatic.

Great interview by Royce. He is a standup guy.

I just wish he would have left the bathroom out of it. Apparently I am the only one who can't get the image of him retweeting on the ****ter out of his head.

And, no, that word is not twitter...
