Hip replacement took Naz out for the year. Have people forgotten that Cooke had a hip replaced as well and could be a factor? I think so.

Sure could, but it hasn't even been brought up hardly by staff once the season began. Not like Naz's has been. Man, I hope the kid can catch a break and help our team. I look back and I thought the best rotations we've used were in our home Texas win. And we looked the sharpest then in closing out a close game. And Texas has a lot of good players and used a lot, too. Of course, the thrill of victory might be clouding my judgement that day. LOL

That is my only complaint about Prohm. What is the worst thing that can happen if you play those guys a handful of minutes.........they don't or won't play defense? They'd be just like everybody else then! You don't need them on offense & they give you 5 fouls!
They are mellow toast compoared to Deonte or MT. They need to find a mean streak and come in and play like gangbusters. Everytime I see them they are five feet off their man and standing in a corner waiting for passes that do not come.

cant really judge a player based on what he does in ten seconds of game time that's already out of reach.

Go watch the last minute or so of the WV game and tell us Cooke needed to play more in that game. We have ZERO bench other than McK. I don't know how you blame that on Prohm.

My ideal minutes down the stretch:

Monte - 38
Matt - 34
Georges - 33
Nader -31
Burton - 30
McKay - 30
Cooke - 4

That's basically what we are doing now and it's not working out to well is it.

That's not what we're doing at all now. I haven't looked but have Burton and McKay played 30 minutes each in a game this year? I doubt it.

I don't think we're having this conversation if the core six played defense and rebounded. Let's not lose sight of that. Sure, having a breather couldn't hurt in that regard & would be preferable, but it's not like we start the games on fire on D & rebounding.

While I see the general benefit of getting some minutes in a real game, those that think our bench would be substantively better if they'd gotten more noncon minutes are kidding themselves. They're going up against our starting unit in practice. Other than getting jitters behind them, a few mins of game time doesn't compare to whatever growth is happening in practice day in and day out.

You really think it would make a difference? We're 3-5 in our last 8 games.

Do I think it would make a difference if McKay or Burton could go for 30/30 in a game instead of 32/20? Absolutely. Those two both need to playing around 30 mpg if Jameel is bought in. That will give more breaks to everyone else. Would you rather Burton play 30, Jameel play 20 and Carter play 10?

They haven't even been on the court for 25 minutes each in the same game. Only 5 times have they even both logged 20 and 3 of those have been the last 3 games in which they both played.

Been saying Cooke should be playing for weeks. I still thing the Texas game in Shiloh had the best rotation for our team.

It's because McKay and Burton always get in foul trouble and have to sit.

This. It's been the perfect storm of bad timing for them. Jameel was bought in and playing a lot of minutes and Burton wasn't ready to play big minutes. Once Burton got ready to play big minutes Jameel checked out. Them both giving close to 30 mpg will help out everyone else. To be fair all of this depends on Jameel and his willingness to buy into his role.

As alluded to in other posts, I would trade early season wins for losses, to have Cooke, Ashton and Carter ready to play for our stretch run. Prohm took a Thinodeau like approach toe very game. He traded early criticism for second guessing now.

Would we we be better? Who knows, but I would have understood.

So you would trade wins to get bench guys more minutes so that they might POSSSIBLY be better at this point of the year? And its easier to say now that you would've understood but Prohm would've been crucified if we lost a couple non-con games because the bench was playing too much.

Foul trouble does hurt them at times but it's not an every game thing. McKay is averaging 30 mpg on the season and Burton is averaging 29.5 mpg the last 6 games

Your an idiot if you judge him over a minute in garbage time after siting for 2.5 hours.

Well, you have a point. I guess I was more thinking about all the close losses we've had down the stretch and how we've looked tired closing halves. Not to mention how foul trouble effects that mentally, too! I do remember great defensive stretches when we opened up a 20-8 lead on WV in Hilton and the start of our OU game.
