Hassel is not a booster. He's a member of the media.

From the TFA:
“As soon as you contact a recruit and try to persuade them to come to your school, you automatically become a booster because you are helping a recruit come to a specific institution,” [Oklahoma State assistant athletic director of compliance Ben] Dyson said. “Boosters aren’t allowed to recruit prospective student-athletes.”

From the TFA:

People are taking this a little to serious.

He's an employee for ESPN. ESPN has him ranked way lower than anyone else. He's also from the state of Iowa and an Iowa fan. It's a joke and in no way an attempt to persuade

Of course Hassel is an Iowa fan, he didn't go there.

But in reality, he was probably just trying to be funny.

It was a pretty funny joke.

Hassel is not getting fired, he is going to be a really good anchor for SC.

If you are worried about this violation, do not check any twitter profiles for our graduated football players who were tweeting Lazard earlier this year. Or probably any of his mentions. Or any recruit's mentions.

Agreed. I don't think he was violating the spirit of the rule, but I'm not sure I'd be too surprised if the NCAA got a bug up its *** and tried to enforce this definition of "booster".

If they enforced this rule to the true extent that it says, every single program in D-I football would have sanctions. In the past, it mainly has been used to prevent fans for making Facebook and mass twitter bombs onto recruits. I know Michigan has gotten wrist slaps for it when players have done it to try and encourage recruits to go to their school via social media Twitter still a confusing issue for recruiting - ESPN

I highly doubt that, CyBer appears to spend most of his day posting and moderating on gobig12.net, he's pretty much the only poster there. I think even Hassel has more of a life than that.

While I know it is a joke, I wouldnt be surprised if the mothership scolded him on the appearance of impropriety. We kmow it os a joke but B10 fans dont. ESPN already gets ripped for favoritism. I am sure this is an allegation they dont want.

This would only happen if Hassel was trying to get somebody to go to ISU.

Don't worry, if/when the NCAA decides to enforce this, they will start with ISU. We'll be the first to know. :twitcy:

I have noticed since starting there he does tweet a lot about Iowa/ISU.....I guess it's good for our state, but I am surprised ESPN doesn't have more of a handle on what their employees can/can't do.
