Weather folks up here have been saying that '12-13 is simulating '88-'89, but isn't nearly as dry.

Don't forget that for a period of about 5 years ending the year before last, the whole damn state was up to their nostrils in snow. Two dry years does not a climate make.

If I didn't have to drive all over kingdom come with a 7-month old in the backseat this Christmas, I'd probably be more sad about the lack of snow.

Christmas in Iowa on the back patio, grill fired up, lots of cold drinks. Ahhh, sign me up. Last year I enjoyed time at the park on xmas. Snow was not missed in the slightest. Why would anyone want snow other than for farming/environmental purposes?

My bad Yoda. I spent a couple hours fixing/detailing my snowblower so there is no way it will snow now.

I don't mind if the snow stays away while I drive 15 hours from Austin to Ames and back. But I do wish for there to be snow on the ground for the week or so while I'm in town.

But I'll still take the mild Christmas last year over the -19 degrees from a couple years ago.

ugh I remember that! We were all walking to finals - weathermen saying don't be outside for more than 20 minutes and we had one final in Design and the next in the National Swine whatever building. My friends and I were joking wouldn't that be the way to die, walking to finals! Your throat hurt just from breathing and your eyelashes started freezing together!

We didn't get snow here in Madison until January 15th last year. I think growing up we were about 50/50 on White Christmases. I would like it if we had snow between Christmas and New Year's so I can go to my family's sledding party. Don't even think they had one last year.

I'm liking AND re-quoting this post since it will probably be the most accurate thing on the entire board today, not to mention this thread.

Even though my farmer dad should want snow (and he does this year, just for the moisture) he always says he loves a green Christmas and a white Easter. I loved snow growing up, but I probably agree. Blizzards/extreme cold on farms create so much cold work.

I want to say it was the next one - 08-09, because I was living in Freddy walking to Kildee every day and that's the year I would have had classes in those two buildings.

I'll just go with both, since there were 3 ridiculously snowy ones in a row.

Up until about 3 years ago when my kids got old enough to enjoy snow I really started enjoying it again. I don't particularly care to travel in it, but that's where being self employed has its perks.

Yup. '08-'09 was it. Remember it well, my senior year we had to walk about a mile for a 9 AM final. My roommate had just gotten out of the shower (wet hair) I thought for sure he was a goner and I was going to have to eat him to survive.

yeah I"m trying to remember the previous year and I'm not having much luck. The next year we had a couple nasty blizzards and a snow day. And an ice storm over Christmas. That was fun because living at the top of a big hill on a rural road meant we got to go ice sledding down the road. The bad news was it snapped all the power lines and being as we are the end of the line..........it took the power company three days to get it back on. Even worse was that our generator was going bad (like shooting sparks bad) so we could only run a couple things at a time. That meant cows didn't get milked until about 3pm and the house was damn cold. It was just a hellish few days. Just because of that, my parents put in some kind of stand in generator or something like that? Kicks in after 30 seconds, saved us several times now!

My senior year in high school, which would have been the winter of 07-08, we only had school for ten days in the month of February due to snow and other circumstances (girls basketball team made state).

I keep watching the weather forecasts and models, and I hate the idea of having two snowless winters in a row. If this trend continues, it is adios Iowa. Part of the beauty of living in this state is having 4 wonderful seasons. It is now becoming the dry and drier seasons.

Santa, bring me some snow for Christmas.
