Clayton was our modern day Jacey Hollaway. His size is definately a minus in today's Big 12. Biggest difference is that we never really got to see what Clayton could do. I hope we don't have to play him down the road and see him bury ten 3s against us.

I have to be reading this wrong. Neither was Morris? Players don't come more point guardy than ISU's point guard. He was brought in as the ISU point guard of the future but ended up playing next to Kane his freshman year because Fred brought in Kane after Morris had committed. If not for Kane, Morris likely would have started at the point his very first game at ISU. If I am misreading your meaning, please set me straight.

I agree with your assessment of Monte's game. However, the same perspective given by the staff in November 2012 on bringing in Morris was given when they brought in Cooke.

They loved both players' ability to play pg or with a pg. It may be hard to believe, but Morris brought in because he may be the pg of the future, and if not, would be able to play alongside the pg of the future.
Kane coming in is a perfect example of that.

Sorry if somebody else already touched on this as I just didn't feel like reading through all the posts.

I don't have the foggiest idea what Clayton is looking for in his next school but I could see him doing very well playing for Bob McKillop at Davidson. The guy is a freaking offensive genius and his system would be a lot of fun to play in for a point guard that can shoot. If Wake Forrest is in play as someone else mentioned then Davidson wouldn't be much different geographically.

Again, nothing more than wild speculation on my part, but if he liked Hoiball then this might be worth his time to check into.

That was also in March of 2013. How did Ware fare last year?

Ware is not a valid comparison as his injury, as with Niang, was a broken bone. Not all injuries/surgeries/rehabs are equivalent. Broken bones heal very well.

Recovery from shoulder tightening surgery is generally 1-4 weeks:

From his statements post-surgery, sounds like he won't have any issues and should be ready to go full contact by April:

Hallice should be ready to play around June, assuming no complications:

This is not about Williams and I am not the one that brought io Ware's 14-15 stats for an injury that happened in 2013.

Like you said Cooke should be ready in June after sitting.

But he flat said he's not even thinking about it this year, he will look at it and decide after next year. No reason to not believe him on that.

The woman in this photo knows a thing or two about basketball and I'm pretty sure she has primary access to Monte' ear.

For the record, I don't think he's going anywhere. I was just trying to explain what some OTHER people might be worried about.

Kane coming in is a perfect example of that.

The ability to play in a role other than pg does not negate the fact that he is a natural point guard. Mike Nurse could play pg (and did his first year at ISU) but there was no question that he was a natural 2. Kantrail Horton was the same he was a combo guard whose natural fit was at the 2. He often essentially played the 3 in Eustachy's 3 guard system.

I guess it is probably just a terminology issue, but I think you are often going to get people questioning you if you say a sophomore who has the top two spots by a healthy margin in the all time A/TO records and lead the league in assists is not a point guard. Being able to possibly play another position does not make him not a PG. Monte playing next to Kane was just as much about Kane being a shooting guard who could play point - they shared PG duties.

I guess I wasn't questioning whether Cooke could play both but rather just saying Monte wasn't a PG.

Frankly, I'm sure Fred's ideal would be to have a lineup entirely consisting of 6'8" point guards who weighed about 230 pounds had unlimited shooting range, ran like gazelles and could jump out of the gym.

Jumping in here late, but I'm pretty disappointed to see Clayton transfer. Best of luck to him!

I think the fact that Clayton is transferring is probably a very good indication that Cooke is healthy and will be playing some PG IMO.

Cooke could well be. But we invested a lot of time in recruiting Clayton - thought he had the makings of a winner. Something went south in this kids Iowa State career and I hope it does not happen too often in the future. Cooke is a transfer and could well be a God send; as a rabid fan I am sold on Hoiberg's use of transfers but, BUT it is only part of of being a successful program.

Kids transfer for a lot of reasons, it's not necessarily because something "went south".

So we spend years courting, evaluating, expending a scholarship and coaching a kid - investing - and then rationalize that they leave for lots of reasons? Those in good standing leave for FEW reasons and usually it has to do with amount current of potential of playing time. That is good and bad. Sure kids leave programs and it is cool but the less it happens the better; and, something had to go south otherwise they'd still be in with us.

Pittsburgh State or PITT?

Sorry, Pittsburgh State I think? Not sure to be honest. Hard to not see his very open Twitter postings but I never dug any deeper as it already felt sort of creepy; I unfollowed all of the players after a few weeks this year actually.
