Does anyone else get a gut feeling that ISU is going to get left out on an even bigger island that it is now if the conference goes the Big 14 route with the new eastern schools?
It seems to me that Clemson is like ISU in that their most hated rival by far is really their in state, out of conference rival.
They'd get over any lesser rivalries they might lose as fast as we got over Neb/Mizzou.
Their schedule would often be a lot like ours. 9 B12 games, maybe in ISU's division even, in state rival from another major conference, 2 open non conf games.
Also...screw Georgia Tech. They can take a flying leap as far as I'm concerned.
Agree. I don't get the love for GT at all. IMO they add a whole lot of nothing to the conference other than a closer location for FSU, Clemson, etc. No one in Atlanta cares about GT, that's SEC country. GT is not a national brand, and isn't really known for any one sport.
Unfortunately we already have 2 games in Texas every year.
How important if any is adding AAU Universities
That doesn't appear to be much of a concern for the Big 12, as we have replaced four AAU members with two non-AAU members so far. Although now we may get more selective, maybe.
Since then Nebraska lost their status
They were AAU for the whole time they were in the Big 12 and when they left us. Point is, if the Big 12 was worried about bleeding AAU schools, they didn't really do much about it by adding TCU and West Virginia.
This all just needs to happen.. the waiting is killing me

I think the Big 12 doesn't necessarily view itself as an academic conference in the same sense as the Big Ten. And I think that's smart, because the conference at its heart is athletic. That's the reason and the purpose for the conference.
If you can survive June 2010 and September 2011, this should be a cakewalk. Those two months took three to five years off my life.
I'm as much about my ISU degree seeming prestigious nationwide as anybody, but I honestly think being part of a huge football conference means more for that than adding a few more AAU institutions. It's a silly sounding thing but I think it's true.
One of my good friends is a Vanderbilt alum and loves being part of the SEC. If we're part of a dominant football conference it means exposure and exposure is good. Nobody really knows if Colorado State or Georgia State are good, average or bad schools, but lots of people know they're somehow not big enough to be a BCS conference school.
The majority of the country outside Iowa will never know about Iowa State's strengths as a university (even some people who should know for hr purposes), but lots of people watch marquee national college sports on TV and ESPN Sports Center.

I have a hard time seeing this. These divisions would be very unbalanced. I could see them forming the divisions kinda the way the BIG did it a couple of years ago.Does anyone else get a gut feeling that ISU is going to get left out on an even bigger island that it is now if the conference goes the Big 14 route with the new eastern schools? There are 5 schools out east that would need 2 more for the division and kansas and kstate won't break apart from one another so it would make sense for them to join that group. Also the group of schools in the south central are going to want to stick together.
Division A
Florida State
Clemson
West Virginia
Georgia Tech
Louisville
Kansas
Kansas State
Division B
Iowa State
Oklahoma
Oklahoma State
Texas
Texas Tech
Texas Christian
Baylor
I don't get all the emphasis on academics. If a potential employer looks at your resume and is dumb enough to say "Oh wait, your from a Big 12 school. Sorry, this won't work out" then that's the type of company I wouldn't want to work for.
