I felt he was sincere about having a team that matches the fan base. With that said I choose to trust the process.

I truly believed his quote about how he loves Iowa State more now. I truly believe we could have him for the long haul if we get a good foundation down.

Im still confident that Matt Campbell will turn this program into a winner.....When he does that then Jamie Pollard has to reward him with a power five head coaching salary.......

Go Cyclones
isn't he already being paid at or over almost at 2 mil? He also has some big bonuses. I agree if he does make us a winner he needs to be paid more.

$2 million was total salary this year which puts him at #58 in total compensation for coaches. We're not the 58th best team in the country but if he starts to win he will be in line for a salary increase even with his bonuses for 6 wins. Kingsbury, Snyder, and Holgorson are all around $3 million/year so I'd guess that's the next jump after multiple 6 win seasons.

I'm jealous of what you guys have brewing in Ames. I think Campbell is going to be elite, and he's gonna get some very talented, that really buy in, recruits on campus.
This always comes at a price, though: it's great to have while it's around, but what that likely means is that someday, Campbell is going to be poached to bigger and brighter horizons. The faster he brings up ISU, the more likely it becomes that he is taken away. Really sucks to view it that way, but that's more or less the reality... Unless ISU quickly becomes a perennial CFP title contender.

Maybe he can take over at UT once the boosters run Herman out of town if he doesn't win a Natty next season.

For his sake, I hope he stays far away from the entire state of Texas. Maybe he can take over at LSU when they do the same to Orgeron next season!

probably not popular but I'm kind of split on the first season. What they were able to pull out of that O line this year was pretty impressive, the bad news is they have a similar task with them next year. I think we saw QB's managed effectively and actually develop throughout the season. They also lost close games in very familiar ways, and still ended up 3-9.

But with the way they are recruiting I'm really hopeful for the future once they can restock the roster. Unfortunately I think that positive future is still 2 seasons away.

I think we will start to have some success in the next few year.

However, the big test will be what CMC does when he gets his assistants poached.

Rhoads had a really good staff to start out and made a couple of solid hires, but he really struggled when he didn't replace Herman.

Manning is going to keep getting positive attention as he turns around this offense. He can easily turn that into a top tier OC position or a HC position all his own, just like Candle did with Toledo.

CMC will really earn his paycheck the year he has to replace Manning. That will tell us if we continue positive momentum or take a step back.

Of course other assistants will get opportunities as well if we can keep improving the next few years.

Or we keep Manning when Campbell gets poached . . . just like Candle with Toledo.

Until that day comes, this entire staff seems to really be joined at the hip at this stage in their careers. One of the things I have always respected about the hawks (little puke right there) is their coaching continuity. Same coaches, teaching the same schemes, recruiting kids over years to fill holes, developing them in the weight-room... I'm hoping we can keep our staff intact for a few seasons.

BUT you hear people RAVE about CMC so he should be able to select the right replacements from a large pool of candidates. I think coaches will want to come here not just for a job, but to work for and learn from CMC.

I think Manning gets better offers before Campbell. You usually have to win pretty consistently as a head coach to get the big job offers. That will take a few years, if it hopefully happens.

Manning is on track, with a few more OL success stories, to have the ISU offense running on all cylinders the next two years with Park at QB and quality young RBs.

Doing that at ISU will earn him some attention. From the media and other schools who will recognize his quality as an OC.

Now we might be lucky enough that he goes somewhere and has success parallel to Campbells success at ISU. If Campbell were to leave we would likely love to have Manning come BACK to ISU and keep things rolling as head coach.

I'm hoping that bond will keep the assistants around for at least a few years before we have to start hiring replacements. That should put us in a better position to hire quality guys in the future.

Not to be cynical, but it is always striking this time of year to watch Coaches leave "places they love" for "better opportunities". One day Tom Herman is dressed in Houston red and all in for the Cougars and the next day is decked out in burnt orange. I can't help but think of the players who made their pledge to a coach only to have him up and leave. I understand the business side of it and the reasons for taking the new gig, but the rules need to be changed so that when a Coach leaves, players who signed a letter of intent to play with him are fee to leave as well. It would probably be wise to not allow them to follow him to the new place, but make it so they would be free to go elsewhere without having to miss a year if they choose.

You are probably right. However, it happened the other way with Candle and Toledo.

None of this years recruits are signed yet so they can still choose to go elsewhere. As for everyone already enrolled at Houston, they knew Herman was probably gone this year or next year when they committed and signed.
