Still waiting on your D1 basketball coaching bonafides. I’ll keep waiting.
Give me yours?

you are convinced it will go so swimmingly, how do you know that? What skills do you have to make that assessment? Keep playing this game, I asked the exact same questions you asked me for my position and you cannot answer them either.

How serious can you take a poll that has D-Rob as one of the top 5 assistants in the league? I can give you almost 5 admins in the conference better than him. Sean Sutton, Barry HInson, Fred Quartlbaum all admins that are better instructors than D-Rob.

Mark Adams, Tang, Broussard, Scott Sutton, Ron Everhart, Ulric Maligi all better than D-Rob and Texas and OU have not even filled out staffs yet. That ranking was fluff.
Based on what?

why are you bringing up admins in response to an article about assistants? that’s like seeing an article about the top bigs in college basketball and being like but these big men are better!

You think D-Rob is better than those guys?

We cannot have this conversation any longer if so because your insight cannot be taken seriously.

What would make D-Rob better than any of them? Is it his find post development work? Is it the ATO's that he is well known for?

Mark Adams in considered the finest defensive teacher in the game at this time by most savants. Ulric is a future star in the business (Blount could be this guy soon too BTW). Scott Sutton has taken multiple teams to the NCAA tournament and is also considered a stellar teacher of perimeter defense. Ron Everhart has rebuilt 3 programs as an HC.

We don’t ******* know dude. That’s why we’re asking you about it and you’re being weird as **** about it. No one else but you came in with a bunch of insights that could only lead the rest of us to believe that you have in-depth knowledge and experience on the matter.

Why do you need them?

The conversation about assistant coaches or about us? Quit moving the goalposts. The thread is about staff.

Tell me why I should be excited about this group and what they bring to the program tactically? Pleaase, enlighten me.

Now, quit getting your ass kicked and answer the question.

Did you not read the bottom of the post? I pretty much told you why

Because the fact that D-Rob is considered top 5 in this league is a joke. He is not even close to that. There are admins in the league that have accomplished more than he has and teach the game better than he does. It was to demonstrate a point that the poll was lame

Ya got me kid.
Listen, this really has been fun for me and I hope that those who wish to believe immediately are proven right. I just wanted to point out that "this feels light" when compared to who we are going up against, that is all.

It is all good.

You look at what other schools have on staff? Did you watch UNLV play? TJ needs some X's and O's help. You can mock this post now but you will be discussing this next January.

What makes CMC's staff really work? Heacock, right? Every staff needs a Heacock type- basketball included, they need a hoops version of Heacock. Other Big 12 programs have that type of coach on staff as an assistant or that dude is the HC (Weber)

TJ needs a Heacock type staffer.

So all TJ needs to do is find probably the best assistant in college basketball that could go make way more money elsewhere but decides he wants to be at ISU. Seems simple enough.

Kind of sounds like the people that looked at Kansas State football as some sort of "blueprint."

Step 1. Find and hire a top 5 college football coach of all time. Step 2. Fill out a staff with people willing to give up any sort of actual life to thoroughly outwork every other program and then some.

I see your list and raise you a Bob Chatterly, Neil Williams, Ezra Betterthan, Robert Cousins, Bonita Applebum, Dirk Digglefluff, Sage Rosenfels (why not), Cullen McIntyre, Seth Teague, Horatio Jones, Eddie Murphy, and Steve McKing.

The assistant coach awards/ rankings are just a way for those positions to pad their résumés. They’re pretty much given out on a rotating basis. That said, coming in 5th in the B12 and MWC isn’t exactly anything to hang your hat on to begin with.

It is a weak staff tactically but even at that- an improvement from the previous bunch.
This collection of guys will not out scheme too many in our league. They don't suck tho- talent level will increase for sure. Something people grossly misjudged over the past two seasons was our severe lack of high major recruiting and talent acquisition

Land shark, I appreciate your opinion and candor. I like to think this staff will be really good and do well, including TJ. He and they will have to adapt and improve to complete in the Big 12. TJ is smart and I think for example, he knows his teams can improve on say, defense. This and recruiting better players is where I am hoping we see the most gradual improvement. Hopefully immediate improvement.

My question initially was how TJ's ISU staff compares to his UNLV staff. You rightly shifted it to how it might compare to the rest of the Big 12 coaching staffs. We might not always enjoy opinions or reviews that don't look thru Cardinal tinted glasses but I think your points are good and I am glad to be aware of them.

As you mentioned with Wayne Morgan, he did pretty well with less staff coaching ability. Why was that? He had some players. Let's go get some players that can play in the Big 12!

Time to see now if all the hype about TJ and his 'recruiting' chops are true.

I don’t generally watch/read reviews from people that have no idea wtf they are talking about, but that’s just me. @Land Shark is telling us why this won’t work and why it’s bad. Everyone else is just saying they hope it works because we don’t have the background or knowledge to effectively judge a D1 coaching staff that has been in charge of exactly ZERO games at ISU. But hey, if you want to take the opinion of a guy that eats cereal on this years wheat crop, go head.
