So you like seeing college teams shoot 40% from the field? College players can't shoot and aren't as good as NBA players. Just like High school players aren't as good as college.

It's like saying AAA baseball is a better product than professional.

Well AAA baseball is better than the Cubs so....

"Better product" is an opinion no matter which side you are on so everyone is right.

Agreed with this 100%. I personally would rather watch NCAA 1000x over than watch any NBA game. Bilas feels the opposite. I disagree with the man's opinion, but he's entitled to it. I don't have to like him for it.

I actually like it more than the football version. Bilas is very knowledgeable on the game and many teams, and is much easier to listen to than Herbstreit. Digger is less annoying than Corso. Rece Davis is decent, not as good as Fowler, but ok. And I like Desmond Howard over Jalen Rose, as an analyst, but IMO Desmond is really good, and ESPN is underutilizing him.

Jay Bilas is biased as ****. He only likes the ACC and Kentucky, and he's turrible compared to Herbstreit. Do you even watch football? Kirk is probably one of the better college football analyst if not best college guy on TV. Hipster

Exactly!! When I think of a product in relation to a sports league, the #1 most important factor for me is competitive balance. Something the NBA truly lacks. We all know what 4 or 5 teams will make their respective conference finals, so why waste my damn time and even watch the regular season

Good one, I think you forgot your :jimlad:

I'm not saying Herbstreit is bad, he's just not anywhere close to Bilas. Kirk is that pretty boy commentator that knows some about football just because he played, but he's more worried about how good he looks on TV, and never "tells it like it is" because he's worried about what people think of him.

He's like a glorified Jesse Palmer, and as you called it, a Hipster. But hey, if your into things like that, then power to ya.

Uhh, no. He talks about the ACC more than anybody else because those are the games he calls. Same with Fran Fraschilla in the Big 12. But I assure you Bilas is one of the most knowledgeable analysts there is in any sport.

LOL. Comparing Herstreit to Palmer is ridiculous. Remember that time Herby had to move out of Ohio because he said how it was? He's the best college football guy out there. I really wish he would head to fox so I didn't have to watch the ESPN coverage but the gameday guys are pretty good. I kind of like Bilas but I also think he's kind of an idiot

Go back two pages as to why someone doesn't like Bilas.

And yes it does. How is this so hard? Better players means a better product.

For myself, I can't quite figure out why the NBA (at least the regular season) always seems so boring to me, as the players are inarguably better basketball players.

Maybe it's because I don't find watching pick and rolls with 6'10 guys shooting 18 footers all the time very exciting to watch. Or how stadiums just seem so dead of any excitement or passion (is it the long grind of the season? hollow stadium fake chants? Courtside fans who are just there to be seen?).

I don't know the answer, but I rarely watch more than a quarter of an NBA game before turning it off.

The previous posts about the crowds and excitement absolutely carry into the game play as well. When the crowd is into the game, it makes it more exciting. This doesn't happen as much in the NBA.

Style of play is a huge difference too. With players as good as they are, and a shorter shot clock, you'll have a lot of ISO plays that just aren't that interesting. With a shorter shot clock, each possession is also less important. Many NBA games you can just come back and watch the 4th quarter for all the excitement.

To say the NBA isn't a better product is silly. At least 80% of college basketball games are unwatchable.

Call me silly then because the NBA is goddamn un-*******-watchable. Overpaid over flopping cry babies playing a game where the Finals winner is pre-determined by the league before the season even begins. Their referees enforce this decision with bizarre calls every post season. NBA is ] [ <-- this much better than watching WWE. If I want to watch scripted television, then I'm going to watch The Blacklist. **** the NBA.

Unless you're emotionally invested in a team or it's a rare game featuring a lot of next level talent, college basketball is tough to watch. Poor shooting, poor execution, overly structured offenses, slow paced games, terrible officiating. I get the NBA regular season complaints, as the season is too long and does feature plenty of meaningless games. But NBA playoff basketball is an outstanding product. The NCAA tournament is fun to watch for gambling reasons and one and done format not the actual on-court product.

I agree. Outside of Iowa State playing in the tourney, NBA Playoffs > March Madness.

First thing the NBA needs to do (though it will never happen) is halve the number of teams making the playoffs. 16 out of 30 teams made the playoffs. MLB is, what, 8 out of 30? So many teams making the postseason is what makes the regular season so pointless.

I think the sweet spot for a league is about 1/3rd of the teams making the playoffs. The NBA would do well to bump it down to 6 teams per conference making the playoffs. But at the same time, it doesn't matter as much for them because there isn't as much parity in their league.
