I thought the big guys showed some better form rebounding that we've been seeing for a while. They won't own the Big 12 in it, but they showed more potential for it than we're admitting so far.

If nothing else, they showed a desire to compete down there. But they'll have to compete with Jake, and he'll take the ball from anybody at that point.

McKnight can really get up quickly. His athleticism was fun to watch that way.
Godfrey seems like he has a body that will keep him in a matchup down there.

We looked a lot smoother than we have for quite a while. To me, it looked like we have some actual chemistry, and guys that like playing together, know where the others will be, and actually looked for each other, as well as playing some decent help defense.

It was Dubuque, but what I saw with those things is stuff that we haven't been seeing. Especially the chemistry. Whatever happens, we look like an actual team out there.

You mean, it's not "Give it to CB, get out of the way and watch, because even if he's triple teamed, he isn't going to kick it out"?

Refreshing. I don't care if we lose 20 games this year, as long as we lose them as a team.

I thought the team looked more relaxed (but I also remember last year's team looking pretty good until Colvin mouthed off, Lucca quit, and Scotty got sick). I was pleased with what I saw last night.l

I only got to see the 2nd half and couldn't figure out how we built up a 52-19 lead with the way we played after that. DG and Scotty were cold in the 2nd half. Godfrey and Anderson and Railey were pleasant surprises although I noticed Godfrey rushes his shot too much on the offensive end. Makes up for it on the defensive end though. Like someone else said, we looked awfully good in the exhibition games under McDermott so I will keep my expectations low for now.

why does it need to be "coach"? "Couch" makes much more sense if, in fact, that's where he was watching from. Not to mention the fact that there's not one comment from the coach in the whole write up.

I was confused originally too, thought it was going to be a write up about what Hoiberg said. I do in fact believe these are comments from the OP's couch. Overall, I think the couch did a pretty good job of breaking the game down. :psmile:

Some good write-ups on the game, I was also very impressed with Anderson and Godfrey, who has a big 12 body right now. Much more entertaining basketball than we've seen the last few years. Apparently we scored only 7 fewer points in the first half than we did the entire game against Dubuque 3 years ago.

I'm not posting this with the idea of encouraging you to get carried away. It's way too early for that.

What I noticed was a different degree of teamwork. It wasn't always everybody moving all the time (although some of that), but it was smart movement. Guards that penetrated and looked to finish or especially to dish it off.

Every player seemed to know where the other ones should be, and we didn't have the usual several passes into the stands we would see early in the year. Less mental confusion, more understanding of roles and how guys get open.

Everyone worked to get a shot. I even saw JVB working for post position on the offensive end a couple of times. Probably won't see that a whole lot more, but he was working that a little bit.

change your spelling to coach instead of couch and the rest looks fine :)

No... I meant couch. I'm an unfortunate fan who lives out of state and must watch the games from my couch. So all of my comments are based on what I saw from video... not from a live in game experience. I can't wait to visit for a game soon though!

'X's and 'O's idiot here. A hearty, huge "thanks!" to the OP for cluing in the clueless among us ;-)

So, how much did our offense remind one of JO's offense during the Mayor's days on the Hilton court?

I like the idea (maybe because we have no choice) of getting our young guys through this season's trial by fire; veterans one and all by March. Won't it be a real dog fight for starting positions next October, that is, we shouldn't assume the transfers are gonna have an easy go of it, should we?

There were some obvious differences last night. One is that when our offense takes a shot, most everyone crashes the boards for the offensive rebound. Another big one is that I never once looked at the shot clock all ngiht long. Finally, the defensive seemed to take more chances.....willing to jump off a man to plug a passing lane and get a steal.

Don't Think Godfrey is 6'8"

why do people say Godfrey is undersized at the 4? Isn't he 6-8? Plus, he is pretty muscular.

It's a little tough to accurately determine player's heights from the 2nd level, but I think the roster heights for Godfrey and maybe Ejim are a bit overstated. I'd say Godfrey is closer to 6'6" and Ejim might be 6'5". Both have strong bodies and very active. Someone on the lower level might have a better feel, but those were my observations.

I'm excited about all 4 freshman. McKnight could be an exciting player if he can put on 15-20lbs of muscle. I was also surprised by Railey and saw talent similar to Hamilton or Homan as freshman.

I didnt see the game and respect trying to give us some info based upon it but I'm guessing we really know little still. Unless Dubuques program is a lot different than when I was in school at Simpson, this is like trying to gleen info based upon a school yard pick up game. I hope Fred got some use and info out of it for his own use as the season kicks off.
