This thread makes me happy because 6-7 years ago we'd be talking about if there is a chance in hell we could get to the NIT somehow.

Yeah, I've been wondering the past few weeks what made FH better at home and Prohm better on the road (guessing it's defense and Hoiberg's teams shooting better at home). Even some of our road losses were games we looked good in...I'd take our @OU effort any night and the second half @UT was very good. If we can play like we did @OU I like our chances @KU, especially if OU has already eliminated them from a title.

As frustrating as this year has been at times, I think this team is already better on the road than our previous 5 teams were.

Freds teams had a lot of bounces go their way at home. Okie State a couple times for example.

Defense. Reminds me of the transition from Johnny ball to Tim Floyd. Johnny could beat the Lakers at Hilton.....but couldn't beat a better than average high school team on the road. That all changed under Floyd. IMO CFH coached a lot like Johnny. And I think Niang's response to Fran in the post game about taking breaks on defense backs that up.

The 3 road wins are against bottom 4. Not saying they aren't good wins because we lost to #10 on the road last year, but we haven't beat anyone on the road that's in the top 5.
The difference is the other top teams in the Big 12 are losing these games. We beat KSU and OSU on the road, something OU and KU couldn't do. They are not tournaments seeding wins, but they are wins that we need. You are a screwed up second half at WVU and finding a way to win at UT away from the conference lead. While its frustrating the team is not better, you are about a half dozen points away from the Fizer/Tinsley team.

Exactly what I was thinking. Johnny came to ISU and could beat the world at Hilton but would lose to everybody on the road. I don't know if we ever had a winning record in the Big 8 when Johnny was there. He just couldn't get that road win and would lose to KU, MU or KSU at home.

ISU is 2nd with 3 wins. Only WV has more with 4. ISU has more than OU, KU, UT. Aside from the two Tinsley years, the only time ISU has had more is last year with 4, and we have 4 more chances to tie or surpass that this season, starting this Wednesday with Texas Tech. Good defense can lead to success on the road and help avoid upsets come March.

I'll go on the record predicting we win more road games than any of Hoiberg's teams and match his best conference record of 12-6.
I'll go on record and say we will not get to 12 conference wins. Winning on the road is awesome but this team is too inconsistent to get to 12

Way up there
The TCU win isn't anything special but I'll never apologize for winning at K State or Okie St, regardless of their record. Manhattan is a tough a place to play as there is in our league and we've only won at Okie State 5 times since I've been alive. Hell OU and KU lost at those places and people still don't appreciate it. They've also done this playing in a tougher league than Fizer and Tinsley ever did, probably tougher than most of Fred's teams as well.

You could say the same about at OU and home against Baylor. We were right there in decent position in all, and just didn't make the plays we needed to.

With all the adversity we've had, we're still 17-6 and a few great minutes away from 21-2.

Hopefully, Prohm's guys will be able to eventually do what Tinsley did: win in Lawrence.

So far ISU has picked up one road win that they did not win last year, @Kansas State. The other two, @TCU and @Okie State, are both games that ISU won last year as well. And he dropped one games at home that Hoiberg did not lose vs. Texas. So he's a game up on the road and a game behind at home, which puts him on pace to be even with last year's ISU team overall.

Two behind at home because of the WVU loss.

That said, a win against Tech on Wednesday, would put him 2 up on the road, and back to even.

Wrong. WVU is the game at home Prohm lost that Hoiberg won. They are even everywhere else at home. Prohm has lot to Texas on the road where Hoiberg won last year, and Prohm has won at KSU where Hoiberg lost last year.

If the top 6 win all remaining home games plus road games against the bottom 4, the final standings would be:

WV 13-5
OU 13-5
UT 13-5
KU 12-6
BU 12-6
ISU 11-7

So we are two games behind right now. It will take road wins at WVU, BU and/or KU to have a shot IMO.

Also, KU really has a must-win game against WVU at home on Tuesday. If they lose that game, it will be very, very difficult for them to win #12.
