I think taking chances with kids who want to play a certain position is a great option for ISU recruiting.
If a kid really wants to play a certain position and only one school out there (ISU) will let him, give it a try. If they don't do well enough, you can switch them later. Or, worst case scenario, they transfer to another school to play their preferred position and you try something else.

Isn't that why Jamaine Billups came here? I thought most everyone was recruiting him for defense and we offered him a chance at RB.

That was who came to my mind when someone said this. Jamaine Billups wanted to be a RB and was a dang good one out of Omaha. He came here because we let him be a RB. He tried it for two years, couldn't stop fumbling, and we made him into a SS. A DANG GOOD ONE AT THAT!

However, I still think this Boffeli kid is as good as gone.

I agree the kid never really wanted to come to Ames ...he just wanted to be in iowa city so as far as I'm concerned let him go and good riddance to him!!!!!
Have to disagree. If he grew up a hok and still hasn't decided where to go then he obviously likes something about ISU. Right now it is 50/50 Iowa/Iowa State
Let's wait and see wher ethe kid chooses before deciding what he thinks

I think Conor is a top recruit in mho. He is only 17 and has more potential than most recruits to develop into a B12 player. I have seen him play basketball and has good agility and strength. He is exactly the type of foundational player we need at ISU. I am glad that he is still hanging in there with us despite a full court press on from EIU. Hopefully he will sign with ISU.

I also hope he remains a Clone. It is his choice to make. Hopefully he understands that those on here who express some brash opinions represent the minority of the fan base and those types of fans are in every team's fan base.
Make the decision that is right for you. My hope is to see you in Cardinal and Gold.

I guess I don't see what the big deal with this kid. He is a 2 star recruit. It's not like evaluaters have not seen him play. Heck Barrent (SP?) is a 4 star by some services. I guess I don't get to excited over a 2 star guy who is not sure if he wants to be a Clone. A four star guy who is not sure would be worth selling ourselves hard on.

just curious about some other in-state recruits..... anyone know why we havent offered Brett Van Sloten or Darion Howard? Howard would be ours if we put an offer out there IMO and Van Sloten even though he is listed as a solid verbal to Iowa is still listed as having medium interest in ISU, but that we dont have an offer to him. why not give him an offer and see if we can sway him from the dark side?

Of course, I want him to come to ISU as well, but he's had plenty of time to visit both schools. If he loves UI, then go there. The saying sh%t or get off the pot comes to mind.

Plus for those who put merit in stars, Conor has been upgraded on Rivals as a 3 star.

He is a 3* TE for whatever reason. Just because he is a 3* TE doesn't mean that he can't be a 4* OL. We are also in on a guy from CA that is a 2* LB at 6'0' 275 lbs or something like that. Does that mean that we don't go after him, even though he could make a good DT?

While Conner might only have 3 stars, and Barrent 4, I saw lots of people saying they liked Boffeli better before either of these guys committed anywhere. And that was coming from people who had attended a lot of Valley games.

Barrent is an absolute monster but I think he may rely on his size too much. Once he gets to the Big Ten, those defensive linemen are going to be a lot bigger and he'll need technique and skill to go along with his massive size.

All that being said...I wish Iowa would have landed both of them. I think they'll be big time contributors where ever they go.

I guess that makes my point in a sense. Like you said there is a guy that we are going after in California. Guy like Boffeli are everywhere. Most of these 4 and 5 star kids are monsters. Now I could be wrong on the kid. He could turn out to be a beast. I just know there are a ton of Boffeli's out there. It's how they develope that turns them into studds.

Third best OL prospect, not OT... I think both Boffeli and Wood will make great interior linemen...
i think Boffeli could be a mauler at RT... Wood has really good footwork so i can see him at OT... Barrent. well he is just huge. thats about it for him.
