More than cologne it's these excessive laundry scent boosters that bother me. Don't know how they became so popular. Or why people wish to show up to work smelling like a laundry room.

This. Went to such a crazy level I had to switch to unscented Tide/Cheer stuff.

I think part of it is a cultural thing. He is from another country that is known for not wearing deodorant.

My sophomore year in college, I had a roommate from the Middle East. I think he got about 3 dousings from every bottle of Aramis. Our room reeked of it. I finally went to the dorm council and got changed to a different room. Some of my stuff stilled smelled like Aramis weeks later.

I work with a lot of elderly clients with my business. Every once in a while there are women who pile the Avon on so heavy I can hardly breath. Never said anything but I've seriously had to open windows in the middle of the winter to restore balance to my respiratory system.

Well if that's not the type of attention he's looking for, then maybe he will cool it a bit with the cologne.

I would honestly say to talk to his manager. If it were a hygiene issue, it would be a valid HR situation, so overpowering cologne smell should be something they can talk to him about.

Yup.

As a long term manager in a prior life I had these conversations. Most of the time the person has no idea.

Too much cologne and not enough. Both conversations. It actually is an HR issue.

Who says management isn't fun?!?

Ok @Colorado

I'd try a nicely worded post it first, and if he doesn't comply, go to HR. If you are having an issue with it, likely other coworkers are too.
