How come he never got a shot at the NBA? He has been so good in the D- League for a long time.

I haven't watched Stinson play in a while, but my guess would be defensive effort. And perhaps size.

Jack of all trades, master of none. And sometimes guys just miss their window. There's a lot of talent out there and only so many roster spots. It takes an element of luck to not only get a shot but to get a shot from a team that's a good fit.

When the Energy coach was on Murph and Andy Thursday I believe, they asked why he never got a shot. Coach said one thing was timing of events. When he did get a shot, he wasn't eligible for a few days because of FIBA/NBA rules. So the team passed and picked someone else up.

Probaly a few things like that kept him from playing. Now I'd wager he's too old for a team to call up. Might as well just sign or draft a younger guy and roll the dice, is how a lot of GMs feel/work.

I don't remember him having all to great of a jump shot either. He mastered that running floater, but I don't remember being impressed with his jump shot.

Those no-look passes between him & Will were a thing of beauty. I think they both kind of got lost in the drama surrounding Morgan's dismissal, and may have pulled the trigger too early in terms of declaring themselves for the draft.

Agreed, I don't think they left at the best time, but I think Curtis was already 23 even though he declared early.

It might be true that Stinson's age is turning NBA GM's off- but it seems pretty silly. Its not like an NBDL call is anything more than a stop gap solution to fill a roster spot for 10 days or the season's balance. Seems to me, the best decision a GM could make is to sign a guy who can contibute in practice.

Same goes with Deandre Kane. Its one thing to not draft Kane because of ability or maybe lingering questions from his Marshall days, but to not draft him in the latter part of the first round is silly. An NBA team would be:getting a MAN, not a kid still maturing. At 25, Kane can give an NBA team 5-7 years of his best basketball.

Here is a case of going from high school and making it happen.
6-11, 255 pound, Jermaine ONeill in 1996 sat on the bench for three/four years in Portland as just out of high school, and then he was traded to Indiana where he was a star for 8 years before burning out with Toronto, Miami, Boston, Phoenix, and Warriors. He is a case where he could not get much playing time, made some bucks for three years, had his rookie time in and signed a big contract early in his twenties.

Curtis was a scorer, but not only not a great shooter from distance, at times a liability there.. That doesn't always translate to the highest level of the pros. He has certainly been good at this level of the pros. Has he had a 10 day contract anywhere?

I'm no NBA GM, but I would think drafting him in the first round would in fact be silly. 1st round is guaranteed money, so if you are going to take a flyer on someone, then do it without using guaranteed money. that points to 2nd round, or even bring him in as an undrafted free agent. I love his game and think it translates. Early in the year I thought maybe he wasn't a good enough shooter to make the NBA, but he really changed that impression during the Big 12 season as arguably our most consistent 3-pt shooter.

I think you and some others are confusing the question. I think his jumpshot is fine by now after all this time in the D-league. He is basically one of the top players in the whole D-league every year, but I'm guessing age and size has prevented him from getting a callup, along with bad timing as said earlier.

Kane is a lot like Stinson. I hope he gets a solid chance.

Love Curtis, but he is a scoring point guard that can't shoot. If you are going to be a scorer versus a pass first point guard you MUST shoot well above 30% from three otherwise the defense sags in and will dare you to shoot. As in Curtis' case he is shooting 22.5% from three this year. Hence why he has not gotten a shot in the bigs.
