Exactly. I’m just saying they didn’t look great. It doesn’t matter though. They could’ve lost and still come in and played amazing no different than we could’ve lost and went and beat them. Throw out the record books or whatever the other team did last week. The game is gonna be close.
They wear black and yellow, its impossible for them to ever look great.

I think Nate will have Becht in the right head space and give him a good plan to win with.

First two series we actually did look pretty great. Offense had a big play TD pass, then drove the ball and scored. Defense did what it does. Then we had the ball inside USU's 30 on 4th and 1, we went for it and didn't get it. That's when it changed and Kautious Kirk came out. That will always be our achilles heel with KF as coach. We took a chance instead of taking the 3 and going up 17-0, we got stopped, and KF turtled up. He's a big giant p*ssy when it comes to that stuff.

Fair point but I could say the same thing about ISU lol. We looked very good for basically the 35 minutes and then it was meh. Either way we both have bias so probably think the other team looked worse and our team looked fine. No worries

Yeah I wasn't able to watch any of the ISU game, I just saw the 30-9 final and figure you guys dominated.

Defense and special teams dominated. Offense was above average overall but went into stall mode once we went up 30-0.

I think you could argue more talent at the skill positions
Sure and/or maybe. And my comment was meant to be in the context over say the last 20-30 years as well (or so). There was a comment that the hawks have put more people in the pros over the years. Not just the last few years, or the last 8 years under Campbell.

So, with that in mind, over time, the 'talent' has been far better at Iowa. Hate to say it, and I do have to take my Cy colored glasses off to say it.

I like the optimism … let’s see if we can stop the run ….
And run some ourselves. And 0 to +1 in turnovers. And play fairly equal in ST's.

But yes, I would love to see us be able to run the ball, and have the OL play a good game!

Anything could happen Saturday and I won’t be shocked…. But I love how confident some of you are after being out gained by an average FCS school. I took Iowa and the under, the only guarantee I have for Saturday is, the defensive line for both teams will wreck havoc.

So...yardage does matter?

You're seriously using "out gained?"

LOL

ISU won in different ways which hasn't been the case in quite a while and was encouraging.

I think there's potential for ISU to be pretty good but I expect it to take shape by Octoberish.

I love it!

Seriously though, I would bet a large amount of money that we win this game very easily. HORRIBLE OL, no real threats at RB or WR, and the defense has taken a giant step backward.

This kind of narrative seems to come back on ISU fans.

I don't expect these kinds of things out of Iowa all at once.

This game could go either way, but after watching both games, I wouldn’t be any more confident if I was an ISU fan. UNI was a 6-5 football team last year at the FCS level and I don’t think they beat anyone who had a winning record. I’m not any more confident after watching Iowa either, too many unknowns.

If I had to predict the final right now, I’d say 20-13 Iowa. As other posters have commented, this will come down to whoever makes less mistakes.

The year Iowa won as many BCS bowls as ISU has (2009) they almost lost to a 7-4, non FCS playoff qualifying UNI team.

The first one or two games of the season can be a completely different thing from the rest of the season.

ISU bullied a UNI team that scored 40 ppg in the last 6 games last year. UI ran for 88 yards against a team masquerading as an FBS school. Weber ******* State put up 35 points on USU FFS

We kinda did for the important parts, but IMO we didn't get to see much of what ISU has yet. Not a lot of TOP for us against UNI, often had short/flipped fields to work with (2 turnovers, multiple bombed punts -- hence the light offensive yardage). Couple chunk plays here and there in those short fields. It's a good problem to have in this case, surely, but makes it weird to discuss this week. We neither lost/played a close game against an inferior opponent, but we also didn't throw up 50+ on 'em.

UNI ran 30 more plays than us due to a few factors: Pick 6 on opening drive, two great punt returns resulting in shorter fields, us trying out two QBs, and us essentially trying to get the game over in the 4th quarter when we got up big. Even so, they put up 29 more yards than us which is not good at 30 more plays. We averaged a higher yards per pass as well as yards per carry.
