I should be more specific. This is not a top 25 student section let alone a top 10. If we want to have a top notch student section we need to watch how fans from Duke or Kansas conduct themselves. They are nuts from the start. It is so loud there at the introductions/tip that opposing coaches cant even communicate with their players at times. The rest of the crowd feeds off of the student section. It seems to me like the people in charge of VA do not do enough to get the student section pumped up and ready to go. They should be more concerned about getting our students pumped up instead of how they are going to look on the jumbotron.

What do Kansas and Duke have that we don't? Consistent winning. Win and the noise will follow. I firmly believe that you can't have a Top 10 student section without having a Top 10 team.

Hilton was very load and the students were nuts in '97 and '00, not because there was a student organization, but because we were winning.

CA's problem is that it tries to do more than being a student section. Get rid of props, time out games, stupid distractions, all of it. Just be a god damn student section. Scream, yell, don't sit down during time outs for the love of god. Just get hostile and go nuts for the duration (assuming its not a blowout). Be merciless ********, not a bunch of nerds jockying to get on ESPN.

I agree with most of this, but I think everyone likes props. Bring back the balloons, scratching them together was so freaking loud and seemed pretty effective for free throws

This.

Plus this. They seem to be non-existent from the games that I've seen so far this year...

That makes me question their actions during my junior year (Fall '09, not that long ago). A good friend of mine (Hawkeye fan, but ISU student - cheers for ISU in every sport when they're not playing Iowa) was wearing an Iowa zip-up sweatshirt over the CA shirt at the Iowa game. They approached him, saying he had to have his CA shirt showing (he had zipped up the sweatshirt by then). I look around and see another kid wearing a Texas zip up, and they didn't say a word to him. Now, I know it's Iowa. And I hate them more than most. But a season ticket-owning ISU student should be able to attend the game in peace. That soured my opinion of them.
My respect for CA just went up, although they should have given the kid with a UT shirt an equally hard time.

Some organization is good. A lot of the better marketing gimmicks to visiting recruits only happens with some type of organization. You do not get too many people crazy enough to camp outside of Hilton when you have the results McD brought us. Most anyone that can make better plans will do so after half a decade of losing. When we have had a few more years of Hoiberg ball, the "coolness" and crazy factor will increase

Meh, Coach K within the last 5 years has on TV complained about their student section being empty and their tickets are included in their student fees. Winning cures all

I actually don't think we need more hotties. I think we need more guys, who understand the game of basketball, are creative, vindictive, and highly inebriated. Far more intimidating and capable of athletic hostility than hot chicks.

I get everyone likes to have hot chicks in the crowd to point out to other schools that ISU's hottie quotient is better than they give us credit for, but really, who gives a ****? There's enough good looking women in Ames to go around that it shouldn't matter what some guy in a ShaggyBevo game thread says about a dude or minge dominated student section.

End rant.

I actually have to agree with this a little. The "hotties" are the ones that sit around and text and generally don't really give two ***** about the success of the team.

I have many fat guy friends who do that too!

You clearly have never seen the Baltimore Oriole hat episode of Seinfeld. I do think the CA area should be Hok free, by virtue of CA students making it hell for him; not an official rule. I've mentioned before when we snuck into the student section at KU were had pop thrown on us, someone tried to cut my wife's hair, etc.

On a side note, Chrome doesn't like "snuck" but it is a word in their dictionary. Hmm....

Your friend is a Dbag. 2nd bolded part isn't true or you wouldn't have gone to the game with said Dbag.

I interviewed to try to get on CAC, and they didn't want me. All I talked about in the interview was how I'm connected to the fans (through CF) and how I just want to help make our student section better. They like people who are just looking for career advancement. I think I have a good reason not to like them, but I still don't see what exactly they are doing that is hurting us so bad.

The dance off is just plain stupid. Tic tak toe and layup races are old. Change that stuff up.

They tried to encourage people to drink before games with Hilton After Class. I thought it was a great idea. Too bad they only did it once. So chalk that one up for CAC.

So let me get this straight... They are choosing leaders for our student section who are focused on advancing their careers as opposed to great fans who want to make our gameday atmosphere better, and you think that this organization is a good thing for us?

I daresay they went too far with the 'no required shirt' thing. They should still require wearing something red\cardinal, just not necessarily the official CA one.

I just ask CA to make enough noise to tune out the band's ridiculous levels of stupidity when trying to deploy chants.

Yeah, i thought that was a great idea for the students, they should do that all the time. (just like they should do stage door for more games as well)

The whole problem with CA is that it's organized. There should be no organization to a student section. It should just me pure chaos all the time. CA isn't the problem. The problem is the idea that there should be any sort of organization within the SS.

I believe I said this after the first game this year. Uniformity is a good thing, but not when it restricts access to the section.

I also interviewed to be a part of CAC last year. One of the questions they asked was how to improve Cyclone Alley. I told them they needed to change the makeup of who was on the committee. More "basketball fanatics" and less people who are there just to be there and add a leadership position to their resume. I never did hear back from them...

Agreed totally.

And as long as there is a CAC, CA will be an organization. Just de-centralize the whole damn thing. Chaos is right.

No one, anywhere in this thread, has said the cyclone alley organization is good for us. He said they aren't completely to blame.

Wait, so all you have to do to sit in cyclone alley is show a student id? So, theoretically I can show mine and sit down there even though I graduated last year?

If it looks the same you could easily sneak in this year. That is, if you have a ticket to get through the doors.
