The chaos argument is bull ****. What does CA currently do to prevent chaos? You can still make an *** of yourself. No one stops you from doing that. No one prevents you from getting hammered before the game. No one prevents you from banging on **** and making noise. Some of the problem like someone said before is cell phones. 10 years ago not everyone had a smart phone to be a distraction. 10 years ago there wasn't a 1 tournament appearance in 6 years streak going.

If we were winning the last 5 years, no one would ***** about the students. Alas, we weren't winning, students jumped off the bandwagon, we're now winning, the bandwagon is starting to grow again.

If it looks the same you could easily sneak in this year. That is, if you have a ticket to get through the doors.

I do have a ticket to get in.. I sit all the way up at the top of the balcony. Not as good of a view as cyclone alley.

CA has a rule about not being drunk at the game. People do it anyway but, yeah
The law also says don't be intoxicated in public and how many people follow that? It isn't a rule if they don't enforce it (and they don't in CA).

Wait, so all you have to do to sit in cyclone alley is show a student id? So, theoretically I can show mine and sit down there even though I graduated last year?

What if I still have mine from say, 2002??? Have they changed?

No one prevents you, but by creating rules and at least a spirit of attempted cohesion, you erode those elements and tacitly undermine that spirit. CA has turned into a place that people go to be part of a group or be seen on TV. Not where people go to get rowdy about basketball.

The student section has a done a good job in some games the past year (KU and Baylor last year come to mind) but this groupthink presence is inherently stifling even if no one actively take measures to stop certain behaviors.

The problem with your rules argument is while that **** existed 10 years ago when it started, they haven't handed out crap like a handbook for 4+ years (I don't think they did when I was a freshman but I can't remember). All of the blood in the student section now is fresh blood that has had a chance to make their own impression in CA (unless of course they're on the Van Wilder college plan).

Again, this discussion will be moot in 2 years when every game is packed to the rafters after 3 years in the tournament and a Sweet 16 appearance. You can already see the tide changing.

Your friend is a Dbag. 2nd bolded part isn't true or you wouldn't have gone to the game with said Dbag.

Good God. I get it, we hate EIU. But believe it or not, there are one or two Hawks out there that aren't complete raging dooshbags. All he wanted to do was watch from the location he paid for in his season tickets. He didn't say a word, either way, above a normal conversation voice to me. I don't see the harm in that. He also went to every single other game with me that season, and was one of the loudest Cyclones there.

Agree.
In the late 2000's ISU basketball lost its luster, even deemed uncool to some. It is going to take a few years of winning to regain the type of student following we had in the 90's and early 2000's.

I should be more specific. This is not a top 25 student section let alone a top 10. If we want to have a top notch student section we need to watch how fans from Duke or Kansas conduct themselves. They are nuts from the start. It is so loud there at the introductions/tip that opposing coaches cant even communicate with their players at times. The rest of the crowd feeds off of the student section. It seems to me like the people in charge of VA do not do enough to get the student section pumped up and ready to go. They should be more concerned about getting our students pumped up instead of how they are going to look on the jumbotron.

You mean to tell me that our student section isn't as good as the student sections for these schools? Say it isn't so.

You know what else isn't as good? The banners hanging from the rafters. KU probably has as many final fours as we have tournament appearances. Maybe some top-notch winning will lead to a top-notch student section.

Winning = Crazy fans

This is what I hear every time someone brings up on how Cyclone Alley sucks and how the student section was perfect back in their day.

I don't care how you spin it, cheering for our biggest rival while in our student section is a db move. No ifs, ands, or buts about it.

So if he lives by himself does he have a House Divided flag hanging out front?
