Get rid of all saved seats (including CAC), nametags, shirt color requirements, stupid promotions/props, etc. Add better promotions as suggested earlier (3-pointer/half-court shot jackpot, student cheering from earlier in the game, etc.). Both sides win as CAC can continue to exist behind the scenes in thinking up new ways to make gamedays better (before game FACs, away game watches, etc.) but the section will lose the look and feel of a bunch of organized little drones made up of mostly freshmen. Good compromise?

I didn't read all 20 pages so forgive me if this has been addressed already.

From a Cyclone Alley organizer, what is the point of Cyclone Alley? What tangible benefits do they bring the basketball program that otherwise would be lacking?

Edit - as I read the Cyclone Alley webpage, it's kind of sad that we need this to get people into Hilton. Take it away and I bet the student section still fills up.

So you don't like the CA dance off?

So do more students actually show up to games, due to the possibility of winning prizes and seeing/competing in these side shows? I understand why they do this stuff at minor league baseball, hockey, etc. But shouldn't we be able to get 3K students to show up to a basketball game because they want to watch basketball and help us win games?

The incentives are silly. My son wouldn't miss a men's game for anything, but they give more points or whatever for women's games. So when the women were home against Baylor, he went and swiped his ID at Hilton, left and went home to watch the men's game on TV. Of course, I'm scratching my head as to why he would bother doing this for a plastic megaphone or whatever the fabulous prizes are, but it seems like a pretty simple system to beat.

Didn't read all 20 pages, read several of them, but here's my two cents (or probably 1.5 cents). I think CAC needs to stop the coordinated free throw chants, quit holding the signs up and using the same 5 or 6 free throw distractions. I think CAC should still exist to do promotions and games during timeouts, it's a good excuse to get students out on the court and do something fun during the game. I think a lot of times the students in the stands enjoy watching other students compete in the contests. I think CAC still should exist to do game watches, FAC, coordinate road trips to away games, and help when the team makes it to the NCAA tournament to coordinate stuff like that. There's still the option for students to garner points, still get a t-shirt with season ticket purchase, get prizes for showing up. Less structure at the game is what needs to happen. CAC needs to be a smaller group of people, maybe 4-5 instead of 10-15. They don't get preferred seating in the front row anymore, they'll have to get there early like everyone else if they want to save spots for their friends. The less benefits CAC entitles you too the more likely you're going to get people who actually want to benefit students before them. If you're willing to show up 1-3 hours before game time to get a prime spot you can save as many spots as you can with your body (for most people they might be able to hold 2-3 extra seats). It happens at football games so there is no reason you can't do it at basketball games too.

I think it is very telling that every time topics like this come up, the only people that seem to defend CA/CAC are people who have only been students when CA existed. Is there anyone on the board that was a student both in pre-CA days and post-CA days that is will say they preferred CA and think it has been a positive improvement?

If the whole idea of CA was to improve attendance, it failed before it even got off the ground. For the seasons where it was a 50/50 split, the GA side always had a lot more people in it than the CA side.

CA=Harrison Barnes brand. No matter how much you want it to succeed and how much you try to spin things, you won't be successful if your product sucks.

I was wondering if the idea of expanding the student section was brought up into the upper deck. Also, I feel that they should get more of the students involved. For those that remember days without CA, was it louder than it's today?

If I hear one more person say Georges with the s, I'm going to go off.
Last game I also heard "Where's Royce, I thought he was our best player. He must be suspended or something."

I'm guilty of pronouncing Georges' name like that from time to time because when I first read it when we were recruiting him, I thought that was how it was said.

Too much crying about seat saving on this thread. Not everyone can have a seat at the cool kids table. Might as well just pick a new seat and learn to enjoy it.

For game day atmosphere I think organized chants, sync'd arms, etc... are a good idea. Although the need to work on timing the arm movement during the shooting stroke and not after. I've also seen a student section doing a popcorn one(every one sitting and jumping up randomly) that might be good. I don't know if you need CA or CAC for those things, but it probably doesn't hurt having them do the signs and kicking things off for at least the first few games until the students catch on and do it themselves. I know a lot of people are pushing for utter chaos and I agree. I would just say it's probably better to have "organized chaos"(read all fans being chaotic simultaneously). Again, not sure if you need CA or CAC, but that does dedicate someone to keep things going. If they're going a good job of that now is up for debate(see thread), but if they're willing to get input and make it better then it might have a chance to work. We'll have to see if anything actually changes though.

Also, if any of that saving seats for friends BS is true...that's just being a ****ing *******!
