I'm skeptical, but hopeful.

Barring any major injuries, I think we are a bubble team.

I can't help but remember UNI's teams when Mac was there. They reminded me of the teams that no one wanted to play, I would love for him to get back to that.

We are a bubble team at best with no injuries. People are already setting themself up for dissapointment.

My goals are Top half of the B12 and post season play of some kind. Hopefully the NCAA, but I'm still behind GMac if it's not.

IMO, it's NCAA tourney or bust.

Agreed. It has been long enough. We don't have the barriers to success in bball like we do in football. We are past the point of being able to blame the state of the program on the previous regime. They have to win now. If not, Brackins and Gilstrap are gone next year and we are still rebuilding.

I understand we are all Cyclone fans around here so everybody is scared of getting their hopes up only to get kicked in the bag but...

We've got one of the best players in the entire country. We've got a player who not only do our coaches think is legit or our 'insiders' on this board think is legit but now the Big 12 coaches and officials think is the best newcomer in the whole conference. Guys, Gilstrap doesn't get that preseason award without a lot of coaches understanding he is a major talent. You round that out with what I think can be a solid foundation around those two and how the heck can you be skeptical about our chances of dancing? I understand the schedule, I understand how difficult the conference will be this year but c'mon guys let's get excited about this team!

This.
With a top 5 lottery pick like Brackins on the team and an experienced backcourt, there should be some serious concern if we arent at least a bubble team.

I'm never afraid of getting my hopes crushed. If I was I would have given up on the Cyclones over a decade ago. Nothing annoys me more than people telling me I shouldn't get excited about an ISU team. What's the point if you don't?

I think this season, GMac lets the boys play ball. He's said for awhile now that he wants to play an uptempo game, but didn't have the horses. If you think about it, it makes perfect sense. Last year, we were able to compete with anyone....for the first half. I think we'll see a much different/improved team this season.
Excellent point.
Last year in 17 games against the Big 12, Iowa State outscored it's opponent in the second half only one time, against Baylor 38-33.

I hope the excitement for the season translates into huge/rowdy crowds in Hilton.

Stealing 1-2 extra home wins could make a big difference for this seasons outcome.

I just want to see the 62-63 points a game average go up quite a bit. Which it should do this year. Not going to beat a Kansas team scoring 65 points.

1995: 69-65, ISU
1996: 56-55, ISU
1999: 52-50, ISU
2000: 64-62, ISU
2004: 69-61, ISU
2005: 65-63, ISU

There were a couple more wins vs. KU in that time span, but I kept to the victories in which we scored under 70.

If anything, the only way we beat KU is to grind a win out.

I agree 100%, or maybe even a million billion %. That's the whole idea of being a fan.
If it means burying your head in the sand and ignoring the shambles the program has become, then that's not being a fan at all.
Unless you like perpetual losing. Which you seem to thrive on.

The program is in shambles? I don't see it that way at all. I am a huge fan.

You got me. I have total control over the athletic programs but choose to have them struggle.
