Isheem couldn’t cover his grandmother with an afghan,
Right. I assume that wasn’t one of the “terrible” games that was being referenced. Not digging too deep, but Rose didn’t play in the bowl game and we held Clemson to one of their lowest offensive outputs all year.
You know who else didn’t play in the Clemson game? Isheem Young.Right. I assume that wasn’t one of the “terrible” games that was being referenced.
BroomfieldIt will be interesting to see how it all shakes out in the defensive backfield. As a casual observer it sure felt like a lot of the departures were not too long after Bloomfield was hired. Maybe just a coincidence, but it just feels like a move in a different direction caused some of the departures. So far the coaching staff has been talking the new guys up a lot. Let's see what happens when the bullets start flying.
We haven't played yet. It may prove to be some degree of a hiccup.I think all the DBs who transferred from Iowa State are starting for their new teams except for one and he's the backup. Starters include Kym'mani King at Florida A&M, Virdel Edwards at Hawaii, Isheem Young at Ole Miss and Jordyn Morgan at UNLV. The only nonstarter is Craig McDonald at Auburn, who is second string, according to a just-released depth chart. That's a lot of DBs to lose for one team, but it doesn't even seem to be even a minor hiccup for us.
I’m with this. I lean towards us having the personnel for a solid defensive backfield, but depth is a bit of a concern (moving Porter to corner and an emergence of Verdon could help ease those concerns). Either way, won’t really know until games are played. We haven't played yet. It may prove to be some degree of a hiccup.
Freyler was awesome vs Clemson. In my opinion the best individual performance by a defensive player last year. McDonald was really good too. They made great plays in space against elite talent. You know who else didn’t play in the Clemson game? Isheem Young.
Now…McDonald did, and had a solid game. I think Freyler made up for Rose being absent (9 solo tackles/6 assists).

Disagree a little there. I mean, sure, to some degree but we're one injury away from having a completely unproven QB. We're an injury away from who the heck knows who at center. Again, hopefully neither happens but I think compared to some positions we actually I think have decent guys who would be inexperienced, yes, but can step in at safety
Isheem was getting fried on routes. He was becoming a light linebacker with his play.Interesting article, particularly the part about the staff evaluating their defensive play last year and seeing the need for improvement at safety. It’s been mentioned often, but maybe some of the guys left because they didn’t grade out as well as we thought and they were imminently going to be behind Johnson and Freyler. WVU and Tech games come to mind for sure.

I'm pretty sure we would have liked to have kept him but other circumstances led to his departure.Isheem was getting fried on routes. He was becoming a light linebacker with his play.
Holy moly, the D was awful in those games.Interesting article, particularly the part about the staff evaluating their defensive play last year and seeing the need for improvement at safety.
